What is IIBA
International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) is a
professional association leading the global business analysis

Overview of BABOK
The BABOK is an important resource for business analysis practitioners to
know the tasks and activities they need to do, what competencies they
should have, and what techniques they may use to support their business
analysis work.

The BABOK core content is the business analysis tasks that are organized into
knowledge areas.
The rest of the BABOK is called the extended that helps us to better
understand and perform business analysis tasks

Analysis?
The definition
The practice of enabling change in an enterprise by
defining needs and recommending solutions that
deliver value to stakeholders.

Business analysis is a broad profession in which


business analysts might perform work for many
different types of initiatives across an enterprise.
Why might you need an analyst on a project?

➔ Analyse enterprise goals, pinpoint problems, and recommend


strategies

➔ Analyse needs and requirements and make them understood by


the project team

➔ Define and monitor progress on the solution scope

Essentially a business analyst works on four levels

In this lesson, you should be able to identify the following:

1. Business Analysis Core Concept Model :defines a conceptual framework for


the business analysis profession.
2. Business analysis key terms :definition of essential concepts
3. Requirements Classification : identifies levels or types of requirements that
assist the business analyst and other stakeholders in categorizing
requirements
4. Stakeholder Classification :defines roles, and characteristics of groups or
individuals participating in or affected by the business analysis activities within
a change.

The definition

The Business Analysis Core Concept Model (BACCM ) is a


conceptual framework for business analysis.

It encompasses what business analysis is and what it means to


those performing business analysis tasks regardless of perspective,
industry, methodology, or level in the organization.

Change

The act of transformation in response to a need.

Change works to improve the performance of an enterprise. These


improvements are deliberate and controlled through business
analysis activities.
Need
A problem or opportunity to be addressed.

Needs can cause changes by motivating stakeholders to act.


Changes can also cause needs by eroding or enhancing the value
delivered by existing solutions.
Solution
A specific way of satisfying one or more needs in a context.

A solution satisfies a need by resolving a problem faced by


stakeholders or enabling stakeholders to take advantage of an
opportunity.
Stakeholder
A group or individual with relationship to the change, the need, or
the solution.

Stakeholders are often defined in terms of interest in, impact on,


and influence over the change.
Value
The worth, importance, or usefulness of something to a
stakeholder.

Value can be seen as potential or realized returns, gains, and


improvements. Value can be tangible or intangible.
Context
The circumstances that influence, are influenced by, and provide
understanding of the change.

Changes occur within a context.


Context
Combination of internal and external issues that can have an
effect on an organization’s approach to developing and achieving
its objectives.

The concept of context of the organization is equally applicable to


not-for-profit or public service organizations as it is to those
seeking profits.

Synonyms: “business environment”, “organizational environment”


or “ecosystem of an organization”.
Key Terms
Business Analysis :The practice of enabling change in an enterprise by defining
needs and recommending solutions that deliver value to stakeholders.

BA Information : any information that business analysts analyze, transform, and


report.
Design: usable representation of a solution.
Requirement :usable presentation of a need.

Organization :autonomous group of people under the management of a single
individual or board working towards common goal.
Enterprise: A system of one or more organizations.
Plan: a set of events, the dependencies among the events, the expected sequence,
the schedule, the results or outcomes, the materials and resources needed, and
the stakeholders involved
Risk: effect of uncertainty on the value of a change or solution or enterprise. A
Busisness analyst identifies, assess and prioritize risks.
