- This division was based on religion and is now considered incorrect.

- Modern historians divide history into:

a) Ancient

b) Medieval

c) Modern

3. What is Colonialism?

- A system where a country controls another country politically and economically.

- British rule in India is an example of colonialism.

4. Administration and Surveys:

- British conducted many surveys to understand India better.

- They did revenue surveys, botanical surveys, archaeological, and forest surveys.

- Surveys helped them to control the land and people.


5. Use of Official Records:

- British kept written records of everything.

- They created reports, memos, letters, and surveys.

- These records are now important historical sources.

- Helps us understand how India changed under British rule.

- Teaches us how people resisted and adapted to these changes.
