Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) Level Check

When checking the ATF level, be careful not to allow foreign substance (like dust) to enter through the
filler hole.
1. Remove the battery.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "Battery")
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")
3. Remove the battery tray.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "Battery")
4. Add 0.7 of ATF SP4M-1 through the ATF filler hole after removing the eyebolt (A).

5. Start the engine to warm up the ATF.

Do not step on the brake and accelerator simultaneously to warm up the ATF.
6. Check by using KDS that the temperature of the ATF is between 50°C and 60°C (122-140°F).
7. Move the shift lever slowly from "P" to "D", then back to "P". Repeat this sequence two times and then move
the shift lever to "P" range.

Pause in each range for more than 2 seconds.

8. Remove the under cover.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
9. Lift the vehicle and remove the ATF level plug (A) from the valve body cover.

When removing the ATF level plug, keep the vehicle on a level ground.

10. Check the ATF level.

Nomal : ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.

Excessive : (abnormal): Over 0.9 liters of ATF flows out for 2 minutes.
Insufficient : (abnormal): There is no fluid flow.

If the ATF level is too high or low, follow the instructions below.
• Excessive: Drain until the ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
• Insufficient: Add until the ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
11. Install the ATF level plug (A).

The existing ATF level plug O-ring (A) must be replaced with a new one. (Do not reuse it.)

Description
The valve body is essential to automatic transmission control and consists of various valves used to
control the oil feed from the oil pump. Specifically, these valves consist of pressure regulator valves,
oil redirection valves, shift valves, and manual valves. The body also features electronic solenoid
valves that ensure smooth gear changes.

Inspection

Check signal waveform of oil temperature sensor using the KDS.

Removal

• Maintain clean condition so that foreign substance does not get into the automatic transaxle.
• Use a coated apron, latex gloves, and stainless tray to prevent foreign substance from getting into the
transaxle.
1. Remove the under cover.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
2. Remove the ATF warmer.

om
(Refer to Automatic Transaxle Cooling System - "ATF Warmer")
3. Remove the ATF drain plug (A), allow the fluid to drain out and then reinstall the drain plug.

The existing ATF drain plug gasket must be replaced with a new one. (Do not reuse it.)
4. Remove the battery.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "Battery")
5. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")
6. Remove the battery tray.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "Battery")
7. Remove the mounting bolts (A).

Tightening torque:
9.8 - 11.8 N·m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf·m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb·ft)

• Be careful not to cause any damage on the hose when tightening the clamp.
• Mount the clamp tightening part in the designated direction so that interference does not occur with
the adjacent parts.
ia

• After connecting the hose, check for oil leakage on the connecting part while the engine is on.
9. Remove the position switch.

(Refer to Automatic Transaxle Control System - "Position Switch")

10. Lift the vehicle after loosening valve body cover upper bolts (A).

2. Perform the procedures below after installing.
(1) Refill the automatic transmission with fluid.
(Refer to Hydraulic System - "Fluid")
(2) Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) using the KDS. Disconnecting the battery negative terminal will
not clear the DTCs. Clear DTCs using the KDS at all times.
(3) After installing, check for leakage of coolant or fluid from hose connection during engine start.
