Diagnosis is made on history and clinical symptoms as well as by blood test.
PCR blood test to see if the B. henselae bacteria are present in your body
Sometimes the doctor will take a sample of a swollen lymph gland. Testing of the removed
lymph gland sample may confirm cat-scratch disease.

Treatment:
Cat-scratch disease is a mild disease that tends to get better by itself over several months.
Specific antibiotic treatment is usually not necessary.

Azithromycin (Zithromax) is used to decrease lymph node volume quickly. It’s typically
prescribed for five days. Other antibiotics sometimes used to treat cat scratch fever
infections include:
• ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
• rifampin (Rifadin)
