HDFC BANK ACE BANKER PROGRAM
Oracle FLEXCUBE is a widely used core banking solution developed by Oracle Financial Services, and it
has an interesting history that reflects the evolution of banking technology over the past few decades.
Here’s a look at its background and growth:
FLEXCUBE was initially developed by a company called i-flex Solutions in India. i-flex Solutions was
established in 1992 and primarily focused on providing IT services and solutions for the banking and
financial sectors.
FLEXCUBE was first released in the late 1990s as a robust core banking platform. Its architecture
allowed it to handle the end-to-end banking needs of both retail and corporate banking operations,
which attracted banks globally.
By the early 2000s, FLEXCUBE became one of the leading banking software solutions worldwide. It
gained popularity for its flexibility, scalability, and modular design, which allowed banks to add or
customize features to meet specific requirements.
- FLEXCUBE was widely adopted across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, and it quickly gained traction
in Europe and North America. It was used by banks of varying sizes—from local community banks to
large, multinational financial institutions.
In 2005, Oracle Corporation acquired a controlling stake in i-flex Solutions, bringing FLEXCUBE under
the Oracle umbrella. By 2006, Oracle fully acquired i-flex and rebranded it as Oracle Financial Services
Software Limited (OFSS).
This acquisition allowed FLEXCUBE to benefit from Oracle’s extensive resources and technological
expertise. With access to Oracle’s technology stack (like Oracle Database and Oracle Middleware),
FLEXCUBE continued to improve its functionality, security, and performance.
After the acquisition, Oracle invested heavily in enhancing FLEXCUBE, integrating it with its suite of
financial services applications and improving its technological framework to meet evolving regulatory
and customer demands.
FLEXCUBE introduced modules for digital banking, loan origination, risk management, compliance,
and payments, among others, expanding its capabilities beyond traditional core banking.
Oracle also launched FLEXCUBE Direct Banking for online and mobile banking, positioning the solution
as a comprehensive, end-to-end banking platform.
As cloud computing gained traction, Oracle began transitioning FLEXCUBE to the cloud, enabling banks
to leverage cloud infrastructure to reduce operational costs and improve scalability.
USER GUIDE 5
HDFC BANK ACE BANKER PROGRAM
FLEXCUBE was enhanced with APIs and microservices to support open banking, enabling seamless
integration with other systems and third-party applications. It also began incorporating AI and data
analytics features for personalized banking experiences and enhanced decision-making.
Oracle also started offering FLEXCUBE as a SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) solution, appealing to smaller
banks or new digital banks that needed a robust but agile platform without the infrastructure
overhead.
Today, FLEXCUBE serves banks in over 140 countries, with modules covering retail banking, corporate
banking, Islamic banking, treasury operations, and risk and compliance management.
The platform is geared towards supporting the future of banking, with a focus on customer-centric
experiences, regulatory compliance, and seamless integration across digital channels.
Oracle FLEXCUBE remains one of the flagship products in Oracle’s financial services portfolio, helping
banks streamline operations, adapt to regulatory changes, and innovate in an increasingly digital and
data-driven environment.

Fields include labels, input boxes, dropdowns, and checkboxes, and may also have tooltips for
guidance.
6. Grid/Table Section
Many screens display data in grid or table format for multiple entries (e.g., transaction history or list
of accounts).
- Allows users to view, edit, or add new records within the context of the current screen.
7. Action Buttons
- Found at the bottom or side of the screen, these buttons enable key actions such as Submit,
Cancel, Delete, and Authorize.
- Their availability depends on the user’s permissions and the specific screen/module in use.
8. Status Bar
- Often located at the bottom of the screen, it shows important messages like validation errors,
success messages, or process statuses.
- It may also display system-related information like the current date, time, and user ID.
9. Context-Sensitive Help
- Many screens include a help option that gives field-specific or screen-level help, which may
explain each field's purpose, allowable values, and input format.
These components work together to provide users with a structured environment to view, enter, and
manage data efficiently in Oracle Flexcube.
Fast Path
In Oracle Flexcube, a "Fast Path" is a quick navigation tool that lets users jump directly to a specific
screen or module by entering a shortcut code in the Fast Path field. This helps users save time by
bypassing multiple menus and navigating directly to a transaction, function, or report.

Operations
The first task of the day for the System Operator is to prepare the bank for the day’s operation. This
Beginning of Day (BOD) operation is carried out by the System Operator at the Host server. Next, the
designated supervisor at the branch carries out the Branch batch opening. This opens the branch for
transactions. Then the vault operator opens the Vault batch for currency vault operations and the teller
opens the Teller Batch for the teller counter transactions. The teller then gets cash for transactions
from the Cash Officer using the Buy Cash from Vault option.
After all the above basic operations, the bank begins transactions for the day. The transactions include
customer transactions, CASA, RD, Term Deposit, and GL.
Let us discuss in brief all these operations and actively practice these operations.
To open a branch batch in FLEXCUBE, a supervisor such as the Branch Manager or Operations Manager
can use the Open Branch Batch option with the Fast Path code 6001. This process initiates the branch's
operations for a specific posting day.
Menu Path : Transaction Processing > Internal Transactions > Batch > Branch Batch Open
The Branch Batch is opened successfully and now the individual Tellers should open their respective
Teller batch by invoking Fast Path: 9001
6002

The Teller can start posting transactions for the day after the teller batch has been opened (Open Teller
Batch (Fast Path: 9001) option) for the day. If the teller is a cash teller then the system prompts the
teller to enter the physical cash position at the start of the day. This also ensures that the physical
count matches the system count i.e. the cash position is tallied at the end of the day.
1. Type the Fastpath 9001 and click Go button. The Posting Date is displayed
2. Click OK

Path : Transaction Processing > Internal Transactions > Cash > Buy Cash From Vault.
• Select the currency in which the teller wants to buy cash from the vault from the drop-down
list.
• The drop-down list displays only those currencies in which the teller can deal.
• Type the amount that the teller needs to buy from the vault teller.
• The teller position will get updated as soon as the transaction is completed.
• If the amount exceeds the maximum limit that the teller is allowed to retain with him/her,
the system prompts the teller to sell the excess cash to the vault using Sell Cash to Vault
(Fast Path: 9008) option. This can be done either immediately or before the teller batch is
closed for the posting date.
• Click the Ok button.
• The system displays the transaction sequence number. The transaction number is system
generated that uniquely identifies each transaction performed by a teller and can be used for
tracking the transaction.
• Click the OK button.
USER GUIDE 15
HDFC BANK ACE BANKER PROGRAM
Using this option you can sell cash at any point of time during the day, if the cash held exceeds the
limit set at the template level for any currency. The system will prompt you with regard the cash limit
has exceeded and request the teller to sell the additional cash to the vault. You can perform this activity
any time during the day or before closing the batch for the posting date. This transaction can be
performed even if you have less cash than the assigned limit. The cash position is updated after this
transaction is completed.
Path: Transaction Processing > Internal Transactions > Cash > Sell Cash To Vault
• Select the currency in which the teller wants to sell cash to the vault from the drop-down list.
• Type the amount that the teller needs to sell to the vault.
• Click the Ok button.

• The system displays the transaction sequence number. The transaction number is system
generated that uniquely identifies each transaction performed by a teller and can be used for
tracking the transaction.
• Click the OK button.
• Click the Close Button.
Using this option you can close the teller batch for the given posting date. The system allows the teller
batch to be closed for the day only when all the transactions are successfully processed. In case any
transaction is pending, like an unauthorised or an incomplete batch data entry, the system prompts you
to either complete or reverse the transactions so that the teller can close the batch for the day. In addition
to this, there is a specified limit on the cash that a teller can retain at the end of the day. The bank
maintains the specified limit for each currency. Whenever a transaction is performed or while closing
the teller batch, the system checks the cash balances for each currency with the respective limits and
prompts the teller in case of violation. If the limit is exceeded, the teller sells the excess cash to the main
vault, to bring his cash holding within the retention limit. After selling the excess cash the teller has to
ensure that the physical cash held, is same as that shown by the system.
For a teller, if there is a difference in the physical cash/inventory and that calculated by the system, the
overage or shortage has to be booked accordingly and only then each teller can close the teller batch for
that day.
Before closing the teller batch, the teller should ensure completion of all the incomplete batches for
consolidated cheques, outward clearing batches, inward clearing batches, etc. This is applicable if the
teller has done the header transaction of the consolidated cheque deposit but has not performed the
detailed data entry of consolidated cheques. Once it is closed, the teller batch cannot be re-opened for
the same posting date.
Path: Transaction Processing > Internal Transactions > Batch > Close Teller Batch.

Using this option you can check if the physical cash held by a teller / vault teller matches with the
system cash for that teller as per Oracle FLEXCUBE. This can be verified anytime during the day or
before closing the teller batch.
This option displays approved currencies in which the teller / vault teller can perform transactions. The
total amount for a particular currency available in the cash drawer / vault should be entered to check
the overage/shortage of cash amount maintained in the system.
Path: Transaction Processing > Internal Transactions > Batch > Cash Balancing.
1. Type the total cash for the particular currency, which is physically present with the teller on
the current posting date.
Cash Available : This column displays the cash available with the teller, as calculated by the
system, on the current posting date.
Overage/Shortage : This column displays the difference in the amount between the total
counted cash and the available cash with the teller.
• Overage: If the physical cash held by the teller in a particular currency exceeds the
amount of cash in that currency for the teller as shown by the system, the excess amount
of that currency is known as overage. The overage amount is displayed with a '\' sign.
• Shortage: If the physical cash held by the teller in a particular currency is less than the
amount of cash in that currency for the teller as shown by the system, the shortage
amount of that currency is known as shortage. The shortage amount is displayed with
a '-' sign.
