graphical), unless stated otherwise.

QUESTION 1
1.1 Tarra bought a fridge for R2 500 and sold it for R3 999. Calculate the percentage
profit she made. (2)
1.2 Ivy bought the fridge for R3 999 and paid a deposit of 10%. How much was the
deposit? (2)
1.3 R5 000 is invested at 6% simple interest per year for 4 years. Calculate what the
investment is worth at the end of the 4 years. (3)
1.4 Chardonnay wishes to buy a new TV set costing R7 499. She does not have enough
money and so needs to buy it on hire purchase. The store requires a 10% deposit and
then equal monthly payments of 𝑅𝑥 for 2 years. If the simple interest charged on the
account is 15%, calculate the value of 𝑥. (4)

1.5 A car travelling at an average speed of 110km/h takes 2 4 hours to complete a journey.
If the return journey needs to be completed in 2 hours, calculate the average speed
that must be maintained. (4)
1.6 Mandla and Sipho collected R4 900 for charity in the ratio of 5:2 respectively,
Determine the amount collected by Mandla and Sipho respectively. (4)
