UNDERSTANDING THE
COMMISSION

[AUGUST 2023]
OBJECTIVE:
At the end of this course, students shouldbe able to:
▪ State the liberation mandate.
▪ Mention the pillars of the commission.
▪ Mention the tenets of faith of the commission.

LESSON 1
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Every great establishment has a ‘beginning’ story. Knowing the
‘beginning’ story is very important in moving forward. God instructed
the Israelites to always tell the ‘beginning’ story to their children. Deut.
6: 21-25
Our commission also has a beginning story. Though this course is
about our ‘beginning’ story; it is also about God’s faithfulness, power
and grace upon us as Winners.

1.2 DEFINITIONS
Understanding: Having knowledge of about something.
Commission: A special job or assignment that is given.

Understanding the commission is having the

knowledge of how the commission started and why we do the
things we do in the commission.
1.3 THE LIBERATION MANDATE
This mandate was given on May 1, 1981, during an eighteen-hour
vision encounter with God Recounting his experience Bishop said “I
saw an army of suffering humanity battered, beaten, tattered,
deformed, defaced, crying, wailing, agonizing in pain and poverty-
stricken. And he said he was shedding tears. According to him,and he
asked God ‘But why Lord and Godreplied “But from the beginning it
was not so”. Then he asked God again “But why Lord, Then God
replied and gave him this mandate:
“But from the beginning it was not so. “And nowthe hour has come to
liberate the world from alloppressions of the devil, through the
preaching of the word of faith, and I am sending you to undertake this
task.”
In other words, God gave HIS servant, Bishop David Olaniyi Oyedepo
the task to preach the Word of faith that sets people from all walks
of life, free from all forms of oppression of the devil.
(Note the underlined words.)
This is the Liberation Mandate given to Bishop David O. Oyedepo.
Shortly after a 26-month spiritual foundation laying, a weekly teaching
program took-off, popularly known as Faith Liberation Hour.
Alongside, a caucus was put in place, tagged THE POWER HOUSE
where prayers and fasting for the actualization of this heavenly vision
took place.
1.4 PILLARS OF THE COMMISSION
Pillars, like foundations are very vital to any building. They are what
hold or prop up the building, other weights of the building rest upon
them.
In the pursuit of the liberation Mandate, God gave HIS servant 12
pillars which he had built his message on over the years. He caught
the revelation from Revelation22:1-3. They are:
• The Word: This is the principal pillar from which the
remaining pillars has their source.
• Faith
• Prayer
• Consecration (Holiness)
• Vision
• Wisdom
• Success
• Prosperity
• The Holy Spirit
• The Supernatural
• Healing
• Prais
PURPOSE OF PILLARS

1. To address various issues of life people are faced withon a monthly

basis. Rev 22:1-2.
2. Each month, God wants to heal, deliver, set free and liberate His
people from any area they are being oppressed
1.5 PLATFORMS OF THE LIBERATION MANDATE The liberation
mandate is built upon a threefold platform, namely:
1) Word of Faith Mandate.
2) Prosperity Mandate.
3) Signs & Wonders Mandate.

1) Word of Faith Mandate: The commissionbegan.
2) Prosperity Mandate: This mandate was delivered
precisely on August 26, 1987 while on a trip to the United
States. While recounting this encounter, God’s servant said
“Specifically in the early hours of August 26, 1987, while
getting out of bed to begin my morning devotion, the Spirit
of the Lord spoke to me, saying: “Arise, get back home and
make My People rich”.

3) The Signs and Wonders Mandate: This mandate was

delivered on Feb 29, 1992. Recounting his experience
God’s servant said “In the early hours of Feb 29, 1992, as I
was in my bedroom worshipping in God’s presence, the
Spirit of God came calling, and yet another mandate was
delivered. God said to me on that day: “It’s time for change!
Prepare yourself for the imminent change of phase I have
talked about over the years. It is the era of signs and
wonders! Usher in this new era withm
LESSON 2
2.1 TENETS OF FAITH
Tenets are principles held as true by the members of a church. In
other words, what we believe and what we stand for.
A.THE SCRIPTURE The Bible is the inspired word of God (2Tim
3:16).
B.THE GODHEAD Our God is one, but manifested in three
persons the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit, being equal
(1John5:7).
C.MAN: HIS FALL AND REDEMPTION Man was created in the
image and likeness of God, but through Adam’s transgression and
fall, sin came into the world. Jesus Christ, the Son of God was
manifested to undo the works of the devil and He gave His life and
shed His blood to redeem and restore man God, Rom3:23,
Rom3:10, 1John3:8. Salvation is the gift of God to man, and is
made operational by grace.
D. ETERNAL LIFE AND THE NEW BIRTH Man’s first step toward
salvation is a sober heart that works repentance. The new birth is
necessary to all men and when experienced, produces eternal life
(John 3:3-5, 1John 5:12).
E.THE CHURCH The true church is composed of all those who are
born again. Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the Church.
Through the new birth, we are united together in thebody of Christ.
Eph. 5:23, Col 1:18.
F. WATER BAPTISM Baptism by immersion is a direct
commandment of our Lord and it is for, believers only. The
ordinance is a symbol of the believer’s identification with Christ in
His death, burial and resurrection (Matt28:19, Rom6:4, Acts 8:36-
39).
G. BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST: The baptism in the Holy
Ghost is a gift by God as promised by the Lord Jesus Christ to all
believers in this dispensation and is received subsequent to the
new birth. This experience is accompanied by the initial speaking
in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gives utterance (Matt3:11,
John14:16-17, Acts1:8, 2:38-39, 19:1-7, 2:4).
H. SANCTIFICATION: The Bible teaches that without holiness no
man cansee the Lord. We believe, in the doctrine of sanctification
as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the
time of regeneration and continuing until the consummation of
salvation at Christ’s return (Heb12:14, 1Thess5;23, 2Peter3:18,
2Cor3:18, Phil3:12-14, 1Cor.1:30).
I. NEW TESTAMENT MYSTERIES(Mark4:11,1Cor2:10) such as :
• Laying of hands to impart the gift
ofGod.(2Tim1:6)
• Holy Communion(1Cor11:23-24)
• Anointing people and things
withoil.(Mark6;13,Ex30:25-31)
• Feet washing(John13:3-10)
• Clothing materials i.e. mantle (Acts19:11-12)
• Blood of sprinkling (1Cor5:7, Ex12:1-25).
• Prophetic Utterance(Is 44:26)
J. DIVINE HEALING: Healing is for the physical ills of the human
body and is wrought by the power of God through the prayer of
Faith, and by the laying of hands. It is provided for every member
of the church today (James 5:14-15, Mark16:18, Is. 53:4-5, Matt.
8:17, 1 Peter 2:24).

K. RESURRECTION OF THE JUST AND RETURN OF OUR

LORD: The angel said to Jesus’ disciples “…. the same Jesus,
which is taken up from you into heaven, shall also come in like
manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven”. His coming is
imminent. When He comes “……the dead in Christ shall rise
first (Acts1:11, 1Thess4:16-17). Following the tribulation, He
shall return to earth as Kings of Kings and Lord of Lords.
L. HELL AND ETERNAL RETRIBUTION: The one who physically
dies in his sins without accepting Christ is hopeless and eternally
lost in the lake of Fire and therefore has no future hope of hearing
the gospel or repenting. The lake of fire is literal. The terms
“eternal” and “everlasting” used in describing the duration of the
punishment of the damned in the lake of fire, carry the same
thought and meaning of endless existence as used in denoting the
joy and ecstasy of saints in God’s Kingdom (Heb. 9:27, Rev.
19:20).
M. Matthew 6:33: The great commission has given in
Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-20. This commission has been
involved in kingdom advancement endeavors from inception,
following the example of the apostles in thebook of Acts.
2.2. CONCLUSION
Today, The Living Faith church aka Winners’ Chapel is 42 years old
and still growing. Obeying every instruction God gives is our secret
of success.
