E. Review (The students will do the good job clap)

Before we proceed with our discussion I would like to know if
you still remember the last topic that you had? Can you tell us,
what is it all about?
Yes, teacher Charles

Marvelous Althea! It is Place Value, and what do we mean by

Place Value? Yes, Daniel?

Teacher Charles, we talked about Place

value tells the position of a digit whether
it is tens or ones.
That’s correct, Daniel!

If I have 3 tens and 4 ones what would be the total answer?

What did we do with the numbers?

If we are copying or getting the numbers to come up with the total 34

answer what is it all about?

We just copy the tens and the ones digit

How about putting numbers together? What do we mean by that?
TARLAC STATE UNIVERSITY

CENTER OF DEVELOPMENT IN TEACHER EDUCATION
Re-accredited Level IV by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACUP), Inc .

That’s correct! How about when we are separating a numbers or Composing numbers
breaking them apart? Okay Sabrina, give it a try.

Teacher, it is called decomposing

numbers
Let us proceed to our next topic and it will be done through a
short activity.

F. Motivation (Duckling Race)

1. We’re going to play a game called the Duckling Race! Each

duck will represent your name.
2. Remember the video you watched earlier? I will ask a
question connected to that video.
3. I will play the race video.
4. Pay attention to the race! The first duck to reach the finish line
will win and get to answer the question I prepared.
5. Be prepared, because you might be called to answer the next
question!

(The teacher will play the video clip, and ask questions once done
the duck race will choose the students who will answer randomly)

Teacher is shows skip counting!

Based from the video that you have watched, what is the video all
about?
Teacher, it shows counting by 2’s, 5’s,
and 10’s

Very Good! It is indeed skip counting, what else?

Teacher, adding the number repeatedly.

Fantastic! Based from the video you have watched, do you think
we could apply skip counting in real life situations?

Can you give teacher some examples? Can you cite some
examples?

Very good! What else?

Exactly, so now based from the examples and video you have
watched what is skip counting means?

Yes! Teacher
G. Discussion
Very well said, so our topic for today is skip counting. Just what
your classmates answered a while ago, it is by adding a number
repeatedly.

To understand it better, let us apply the double digit number, so

first so you can understand it better, since we already discussed
addition we will apply it to further understand skip counting.

2+2 is equals to?

Teacher, when your counting your

Plus 2? money!

Plus 2 again? Teacher, counting the students who got

high score.

Lastly and 2 again?

Based from our examples, what have you observed? Teacher, it is adding a number repeatedly

Very good! What else?

That’s correct!

I have here another examples wherein it is the same example but

with a representation of shoes, altogether let’s count together.

4 Teacher!

6 Teacher.

8 Teacher.

10 Teacher.

Teacher, we are keep on adding the same

number.

Teacher, there’s a pattern.

We have here another example, wherein teacher Charles has a

small garden and he wanted to know how many flowers he has.
Each pot has 2 flowers, let us help teacher Charles to skip count
by 2’s to know the answer.

How many flowers does teacher Charles have?

Very good! How did we come up with that answer?

Great job, everyone! And that is how we skip count by 2's

Now we will try to skip count by 5’s and in a form of word

problem, and try to solve it using skip counting are you all ready?

Mia and her family are going to church and bringing baskets of
mangoes as an offering. Each basket has 5 mangoes, and they
have 4 baskets. How many mangoes do they have in total? You
can count by fives to find the answer!

Teacher, there are 28 Flowers in all.

Yes, Arkin give it a shot!

Teacher, by skip counting by 2’s

Very well said, Arkin! So altogether Rapunzel gathered 20
mangoes.

How did we come up with that answer?

Yes, teacher!!
Very good! What else? Hailey count the stars by skip counting by
5s?
TARLAC STATE UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION
CENTER OF DEVELOPMENT IN TEACHER EDUCATION

Well said! Let’s have another example

Hailey and her friends are watching the night sky, and saw a
bunch of stars and they wanted to count it, can you help Hailey
count the stars by skip counting by 5s?

Teacher, they offered 20 mangoes.

Solve it by using skip counting, who wants to give it a try? Okay,

Kya go ahead.

Teacher, we keep adding 5 to the next

number.
Fantastic! Kya,
Teacher, we skip count by 5’s
How did we come up with that answer?

Very well said! So that’s how we can skip count by 5’s

Lastly we have skip counting by 10’s and I think this will be the
easiest for you.

So we do have an example here: Jefford and his friends are plying

marbles, he has a total of 10 cans and each can has 10 marbles
inside. How many marbles does Jefford have? Solve it by using
skip counting.

Okay Marco, go ahead and

give us the answer.
Teacher Hailey and her friends saw 80
stars in all
That’s correct! Marco,
Jefford indeed have a total of
100 marbles.

Let’s have another Teacher, by means of skip counting and

example and solve it. Miss adding 5 repeatedly.
went to the supermarket
to buy some eggs, each
tray has 10 eggs. So she
get 4 trays of eggs. How many eggs did she buy in total?

Who wants to give it a shot? Okay Riza go ahead.

Marvelous! Riza, miss Tricia indeed bought a total of 40 eggs.

With that I can tell that you definitely understand our discussion,
but just a quick recap who can tell me what do we mean by skip
counting? Yes, Natalia.

Very good, Natalia! What else? Okay Emmanuel go ahead.

Teacher, Jefford has a total of 100

Very well said, Emmanuel! Let us now proceed with our group marbles
activity for today to know whether you understand our topic for
today. Are you ready?

H. Application
INSTRUCTION: Hopscotch
1. Teacher will group the students into 3 groups representing the
skip counting of 2s, 5s, and 10s.
2. Each hopscotch station has the corresponding skip counting
numbers of 2s, 5s, and 10s.
3. The students must hop on the blank box and say aloud the
correct number to complete the sequence of skip counting.
4. The students who fails to say aloud the correct answer have to
start over again.
5. The group
who will
finish the Teacher, Miss Tricia bought a total of 40
fastest by eggs.
timer will
be the
winners.

Teacher, skip counting is the easiest way

of counting a group of numbers.

Teacher, it’s adding the same number

repeatedly.

question and answer, just raise your hands if you wanted to ask a
question and answered by your classmate.

today, now to further test your knowledge and understanding. How can you apply skip counting in real
Let’s have a short assessment. life? I will choose Angela to answer.

We can apply it in real life by means of
