B. Grammar Explanations
1. Polite Requests:
When you want to ask for something, it's always good to be polite. Instead of saying "I want...", we
use phrases like:
• "I'd like..." (This is a short way of saying "I would like...")
o Example: "I'd like a burger, please."
• "Could I have...?"
o Example: "Could I have a glass of orange juice?"
• "Can I get...?" (This is common and polite, especially in casual settings)
o Example: "Can I get a coffee, please?"
Remember to always add "please" at the end of your request to make it even more polite!
2. Quantifiers:
We use quantifiers to say how much of something we want.
• For things you can count (like apples, burgers, slices):
o "One burger", "Two slices of pizza"
o "a slice of..." (for cake, pizza)
o "a scoop of..." (for ice cream)
• For things you can't easily count (like water, rice, soup):
o "a glass of..." (for juice, water)
o "a cup of..." (for coffee, tea)
o "a bottle of..." (for water, soft drinks)
o "some": We use "some" for uncountable things when we don't need to specify an exact
amount.
▪ Example: "I'd like some water, please." (You don't say "one water")
▪ Example: "Could I have some rice?"
C. Reading Text: A Cafe Experience
Title: A Cozy Morning at 'The Daily Grind'
Sarah loved visiting 'The Daily Grind' cafe. It was a small, cozy place with a warm atmosphere and the
smell of fresh coffee always in the air. One Saturday morning, she decided to treat herself.
As she walked in, the friendly barista, Mark, smiled and said, "Good morning, Sarah! What can I get
for you today?"
Sarah thought for a moment. "Good morning, Mark! I'd like a large latte, please. And do you have
any of those delicious blueberry muffins today?"
Mark checked behind the counter. "Yes, we do! Just one left. Would you like that?"
"Perfect!" Sarah replied. "I'll take the muffin, please. That's all for me today, thank you."
Mark quickly prepared her latte and put the muffin in a small paper bag. "Here you go, Sarah. That'll
be $7.50."
Sarah paid, took her order, and found a comfortable seat by the window. She enjoyed her warm latte
and sweet muffin, watching the world go by. It was the perfect start to her day.
D. Long Dialogue: Ordering Lunch at 'The Green Bistro'
Characters:
• Waiter (W): Friendly and helpful
• Customer (C): A bit hesitant at first, then more confident
W: Good afternoon! Welcome to The Green Bistro. Do you have a reservation?
C: Good afternoon! No, I don't. Is there a table available for one?
W: Yes, of course. Right this way. (Leads customer to a table) Here's your menu. Can I get you
something to drink while you look it over?
C: Thank you. Yes, I'd like a glass of iced tea, please.
W: Certainly. I'll be right back with that. (Waiter leaves and returns with the iced tea) Here's your
iced tea. Have you had a chance to decide on your food?
C: Yes, I think so. For my main course, I'd like the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes.
W: Excellent choice! The grilled chicken is very popular today. Would you like any sauce with that?
We have mushroom sauce or black pepper sauce.
C: Hmm, I think I'll have the mushroom sauce, please.
W: Alright. And would you like any appetizers to start, or perhaps a side salad?
C: No, thank you. I think the chicken and potatoes will be enough.
W: Okay. And for dessert? We have our special chocolate lava cake or a fresh fruit salad.
C: Oh, the chocolate lava cake sounds delicious! Could I get a slice of that, please?
W: Of course! So, that's one grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and mushroom sauce, one glass of
iced tea, and one slice of chocolate lava cake. Is that correct?
C: Yes, that's all, thank you very much.
W: Perfect. Your order will be ready in about 15 minutes. Enjoy your tea!
C: Thank you!
