Activity 2:

Please write a descriptive paragraph of not less than 250 words about a session, which you think was
conducted extremely well. Please provide inputs on why you consider this session as the best.

Session Title: Assessment planning, writing the correct Essay Question and MCQ

Date. : 10/04/24

The session included the important concept of blueprinting in assessment design and writing essay
,short answers and MCQ. . Participants were thoroughly trained on how to write scenario-based
multiple choice questions (MCQs).The clarity of the presentation, coupled with well-structured
group interactions and simple, engaging exercises, made the session both informative and easy to
follow. One of the key highlights was the emphasis on the importance of blueprinting in creating
fair and valid assessments. With relevant examples, the presenter demonstrated how blueprinting
ensures balanced coverage of content areas and learning objectives, thereby reducing bias and
improving the overall quality of examinations. Despite the vastness of the topic, the structured
division of content based on priority and relevance helped in maintaining focus and understanding.
The session on assessment planning had multiple areas like blue printing . framing essay questions ,
MCQ etc. The common mistakes that can happen while framing MCQ was discussed in detail. The
importance of distractors in MCQ and and how to use it while framing the questions were
discussed in detail. Many examples were given and all the groups were actively participated. By
simplifying complex topics and providing hands-on opportunities to apply the concepts, the session
successfully created a positive learning environment. Steps in preparation of blue prints like the
impact score, weightage of each area etc were clearly explained . Faculty members were not only
able to grasp the key principles of blueprinting and assessment planning but also contributed a lot.
This well-designed session stands out as one of the best due to its content , interactive nature and
also time management . At the end participants doubts were addressed thoroughly.

Activity 3

Please write a descriptive paragraph of not less than 250 words about a session that needs
improvement. Please provide inputs on what was not well, how it interferes with participants’ learning
and how it can be rectified.

Session Title: SDL:Concept and conduct

Date. 10/04/25

The session on Self-Directed Learning (SDL) conducted during the medical education
workshop began with a good sensitization to the topic by discussing research work related to
SDL. However, beyond this, the session lacked a clear structure and appeared to be more
theoretical making it difficult for participants to relate SDL concepts to real teaching and
learning scenarios.

The facilitator was unable to clearly present the concept of SDL or distinguish it from
traditional self-learning. Interaction was minimal, and the absence of hands-on activities or
small group tasks led to passive participation. Furthermore, the session did not explain how
to implement SDL in our own institutional context. The lack of examples from actual
classroom settings or clinical teaching environments further limited the session’s
effectiveness.

Moreover, the session did not sufficiently address the barriers faculty often face when
promoting SDL, nor did it offer strategies to overcome them. Time management was
another concern, as a significant portion of the session was spent discussing a published
article without aligning it to the specific needs of medical education.

It is important to emphasize the faculty’s role in SDL. Faculty act as facilitators who support
students in their learning journey. This aspect should be a focus of the basic workshop, as
SDL can otherwise be easily confused with independent learning by students.

The importance of promoting SDL in medical colleges should be discussed in detail. Faculty
can support students by designing learner-centered environments that encourage curiosity,
critical thinking, and reflection.

To improve, SDL sessions should incorporate case-based discussions, real-life examples,

and interactive tasks that allow faculty to design SDL activities tailored to their own
curriculum.

write response to the following questions and so on). Identify at least 5 things.
