Process Capability Study Explained

The document outlines process capability as a statistical tool to evaluate a process's ability to produce outputs within specified limits. It discusses the importance of measuring and controlling process spread, with Cp and Cpk indices used to assess process performance. Key factors influencing process capability include machine conditions, operational types, raw materials, and operator skill levels.

Cp PROCESS CAPABILITY
A measure of the ability of a process to produce output within specification limits

PROCESS WIDTH
 Cp accounts for only spread or variation in the process.
 Cp does not account for the process’s centering.
 Cp should be bigger than and equal 1.33 (Cp ≥ 1.33)

FORMULA
DESIGN WIDTH
Cp = Design Width / 6σ = USL-LSL / 6σ

Cpk PROCESS CAPABILITY INDEX

A measure of how to close a process is running to its specification limits, accounting for process mean
