Assignment Brief (RQF)
Unit Learning Outcomes:
LO1 Identify the relevance of mathematical methods to a variety of
conceptualised engineering examples
LO2 Investigate applications of statistical techniques to interpret, organise and
present data
Assignment Brief and Guidance:
Scenario
With the advancement of technology, the design process is becoming
increasingly complex. The industrial competitiveness coupled with the
globalisation of the economy has forced the engineering and science
communities to look for designs that are good not only for a single application
but several applications grouped together. As part of your task as an engineering
manager within a research-based engineering establishment. The calculations
carried out in engineering and science lead to a result which is not just a pure
number but rather a number with a physical meaning.
Throughout your report specify key terms, giving definitions where appropriate
to ensure the content can be understood by a non-technical audience.

Task 1
1) The speed of light
In 1983 the General Conference on Weights and Measures defined the
speed of light to be c=299,792,458 metres/second.
Using dimensional analysis, determine the speed of light in Km/h?
2) Using dimensional analysis, determine the unit of power.
3) Find the first four terms in each sequence

Your Engineering Director thinks that the inspection time should be the same
for all outsourced components. Using the data provided, test this hypothesis
and indicate whether there is a correlation or not. Assume significance level
is 0.05 and the data is non-directional.
