4. 3 COMMON PATTERNS TO

DESCRIBE CHANGES
a) There + be + adjective + noun + in + noun (topic)

There was a gradual rise in the number of arrests

b) Noun (topic) + verb + adverb

The number of arrests rose gradually in 1952

c) Time + see/experience/witness +adjective + noun + in + noun (topic)

1952 saw a gradual rise in the number of arrests

EXAMPLE:
