2. Summary
In this project the process has been clear from the beginning because we
wanted to see the problems that smokers face, especially physically and
economically, so we asked a total of 65 people of different age ranges and
also whether they smoked or not to compare and see one reality with
another, so yes, we did that and once the results came out we realized that
the tobacco issue should be closely controlled since it causes a lot of
dependence, especially in men, and also if you don't control it economically
you'll end up on the ground.
3. Introduction
We are very interested in the effects of tobacco on people’s health and
economic status. It is an interesting topic to study because the scientific side
can lead to more discoveries, campaigns, or recommendations to regularly
visit a doctor to monitor the health of smokers. To begin this investigation,
we first asked the question: Who influences the daily consumption of
tobacco? We chose this question because we assume that tobacco
consumption is harmful, as it can cause damage to organs or affect the
functioning of some parts of the body (such as the legs or hands).
4. Theoretical foundation
What is tobacco?
2
Tobacco is a drug that stimulates the central nervous system. This drug was
first discovered in the 11th century B.C. by Jean Nicon, ambassador of Portugal
and France, who brought it to light with the idea that it was only consumed as
a medicinal plant, but today it is a legal drug and thanks to its most addictive
component, nicotine, the consumption of tobacco creates dependence. And
when consumed, it produces more than 4000 different toxic products that stand
out for being dangerous and for the diseases they can cause.
The impact of tobacco on daily life?
The impact in the daily life is that Smoking means being exposed to numerous
harmful substances for health and creating a dependency. Carbon monoxide is
a substance found in tobacco smoke, which passes into the bloodstream
through the lungs. This means it is harmful to our vascular system and to the
transportation of oxygen to our tissues. As a result, it causes fatigue, coughing,
and expectoration. Then we have nicotine, which I mentioned in the previous
section, that acts on different areas of our brain by regulating pleasurable
sensations. It also affects the cardiovascular system, increasing heart rate and
the possibility of arrhythmias.
How tobacco affects the economy?
Tobacco constantly affects your finances and salary. If you smoke, part of your
money goes to tobacco consumption, spending more than 650 euros a year,
according to the health organization. But it's not just this; you also contract so
many diseases, which I'll talk about later, which include going to the hospital.
This is another economic expense that, even if indirect, happens thanks to
tobacco. Therefore, tobacco consumption causes a lot of dependency, and if
you don't know how to quit or control it, it can lead to financial ruin.
Physical effects of tobacco
Smoking is extremely harmful, as it can lead to countless diseases or congenital
pathologies due to the addiction caused by its components. These symptoms
can start to appear a few months after the first use, and it can lead to developing
cancer, respiratory diseases, heart and fertility problems. In women, there can
also be problems during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as dental and skin
problems, among many other diseases, and it can even cause death.
Why is tobacco addictive?
The addiction that tobacco brings is thanks to nicotine because, as you said
before, nicotine creates dependence, which is produced when you reach a point
3
where you cannot stop taking it thanks to its excessive consumption due to its
chemical composition, but when you try to stop taking it, nicotine makes you
experience physical and mental changes that are extremely.
How tobacco affects in the economy in Madrid?
Tobacco use can displace household spending on basic needs, including food
and education, which contributes to pushing families into poverty and hunger.
It also imposes disproportionate health and socioeconomic costs on the poor,
women, youth and other vulnerable populations. At the same time, tobacco
production causes environmental damage, particularly soil degradation, water
pollution and deforestation. Given the major development challenges tobacco
imposes, its effective control requires the involvement of non-health sectors in
the context of a whole-of-government approach.
How does tobacco affect your sleep hours?
This fact, even though there are many smokers in the world, is a fact that is
usually overlooked. However, it can have many variables when it comes to your
sleeping hours, such as an increased risk of insomnia because you have more
difficulty falling asleep, respiratory apneas, which, because your lungs are
highly polluted at night, can cause several serious scares, or you also tend to
snore more since tobacco irritates the airways and causes inflammation.
How tobacco affects emotions?
Tobacco has several psychological effects that can affect both a person’s mood
and overall emotional well-being, and over the long term, tobacco use can
contribute to the development of emotional conditions. Thus, while not a
definitive relationship, smoking has been associated with an increased risk of
developing depression and anxiety because the chemicals present in tobacco
can affect the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain. Furthermore, the
involvement of dopaminergic centers can alter emotional balance and
contribute to the development of depressive and anxious symptoms,
contributing to the relationship between tobacco use and emotional distress.
When quitting smoking, why is it important to have a helper?
It is good to have a helper because sometimes you have the impulsiveness to
smoke so if you have a person that helps to control you will help you in the
process. It is important also because they can support you to do your best to
help your body. If you relapse your helper can work through the mistakes with
you so they will not happen again. So, it is a good idea to have a helper to help
you to live a healthy life.

5. Experimental design
In this experiment we do a questionary about the things that we are interested on to
solve our hypothesis so we chose 65 persons to do these questionary for take notes
and then see the differences and one important thing is that we separate the 65
persons in groups of five depends on their ages is they are male or female and of
course if they Consume tobacco or not.(This is our questionary )
6. Result

• The reason why they started smoking: They told us that they tried it just for the
sake of it and liked it, so they didn't stop smoking.
• And the not smokers said at all ages that they wouldn’t smoke because it is a
bad thing for their lives and bodies.
➢ Imagine you're in a 4-hour meeting. How many times do you need to go outside
for a smoke?
• Females’ smokers between 11-35 years said that they don’t need to go
to smoke any time.
• Females’ smokers between 35- +45 years said that they need to go to
smoke 2-3 times.
• Males’ smokers between 11-35 years said that they need to go to smoke
2-3 times.
• Males’ smokers between 35- +45 years said that they need to go to
smoke 3-4times.
• And non-smokers said that they need to go outside because they are so
stressed.

➢ What is withdrawal, and what do you think about it in the tobacco sense, not
the animal sense?
• In this question, everyone agrees that withdrawal is what we call tobacco
addiction when you can't quit for even a minute because you always
want to smoke, and that it's a real shame because in the end, if you're a
smoker, you're going to get hit with bad luck.
7. Conclusions
With the questionnaire already completed and the tables already made with
the results posted, we consider that our hypothesis was true since smokers
spend money on something like tobacco, which is not considered essential,
and they have fewer economic resources thanks to this. On the other hand,
there is personal health, which, as we have been able to verify, the people
to whom we have given the questionnaire think that the physical risk of a
smoker is greater than that of non-smokers, which once again reaffirms our
hypothesis.
So, we just need to expose it to the public to take control of this problem
and find a solution.
