(2) BCF (Halon 1211) extinguisher vessel contains extinguishing agent BCF
(Halon 1211). The containers are pressurised with Dry Nitrogen. Actuation
of the extinguisher is accomplished by manual trigger action.

(3) The basic cylinder of the extinguisher consists of a seamless aluminium

cylindrical container. Each extinguisher is fitted with an acytal co-polymer
head, fitted with a Verton RF700-10 trigger, containing a spring-loaded
plunger and secondary seal.

(4) Leading particulars:

B. Operation

(1) Remove extinguisher (Fig 1) from bracket (Fig 2)

(2) Aim Extinguisher at base of fire

(3) Squeeze trigger. This fractures the frangible seal on the syphon tube
assembly Fig 1 (20) discharging the contents through nozzle. On
releasing the trigger the spring forces the cylindrical piston onto the
secondary seal ‘O’ ring, thus interrupting the flow of extinguishant and
preventing leakage of any remaining agent in the container.

(4) Operation of the trigger also fractures the indicator disc Fig 1 (140)
RED, causing it to eject from the discharge head assembly Fig 1 (100),
thus providing a visual indication that the extinguisher has been used.

(5) The optimum distance from the fire for effective fire fighting, is
between 4 and 6 feet, with the extinguisher held within 30o either side
of vertical

7. ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST

A. Statement of the purpose of IPL.

This section provides illustrations and parts breakdown of all parts of the
fire extinguisher, which can be dis-assembled, repaired or replaced and
reassembled.

B. Explanation and Usage of IPL.

(1) Introduction

The introduction contains all explanatory information for the individual

sections as is necessary for the use of this IPL. The introduction also
contains a list of abbreviations used in the detailed parts list.

(2) Detailed Parts List

(a) Column FIG/ITEM

The first number in the first line of a page indicates the number of
the figure illustrating the part. The second number indicates the
item number by which the part is identifiable on the illustration. A
dash number indicates that the part is not illustrated.

(b) Column PART NUMBER

The part number column contains the original manufacturer part

number. When standard parts are used, the standard part number is
listed in the column.

(c) Column AIRLINE PART NO.

This column is left blank for airline internal use.

(d) Column NOMENCLATURE

The Nomenclature column gives the name of each assembly or

part. Details of an assembly are listed immediately after the
assembly and are indented one dot to the right, to indicate
relationship.

(e) Column EFF CODE

The effectivity code column establishes parts relationship with

units or assemblies, which are essentially the same but, have minor
deviations. These units or assemblies are assigned reference letters
such as A, B, C etc. Parts, which are not common to all
configurations but are associated with one or more of the coded
lead items, carry the letter or letters assigned to the lead item with
which it is associated. Where a part is common to all lead items,
the effectivity column is left blank.

(f) Column UNITS PER ASSY

This column contains the quantity of a specified catalogue

sequence numbered part required in the build sequence of only
(where more than one exists) next higher sub-sub-assembly, sub-
assembly, assembly, or installation level as applicable. For bulk
items, the letters ‘AR’ are inserted in the quantity column, to
indicate ‘As Required’. Where items are listed for ‘Reference
Purposes’ ‘RF’ is inserted.
