Paper – II Introduction to transfusion technology, Lab management
1. Introduction to transfusion: Role and responsibility of transfusion technician, 2
safety measures and first aid.
2. Cleaning and care of general laboratory glassware and equipment. Principles,
functions and uses of balances, centrifuge machines, colorimeters. 2
3. Collection and recording of biological specimens, separation of serum plasma 2
preservation and disposal of biological samples/materials
4. Standard solution: Various std. solutions used, their preparation; storage of 1
chemicals
5. Laboratory Management and Planning. The reception and recording of 4
specimen, cataloguing and indexing maintenance of laboratory records.
6. Introduction to microbiology lab, various types of specimens received 2
7. A knowledge of working and maintenance of the following Incubators, 3
Refrigerators, Water baths, Ovens, Steamers, Autoclaves, Inspissator,
Centrifuges, Vaccum Pumps, Water Steel. Cleaning and sterilization of
syringes and needles. Sample glass wares.
8. Sterilization: Methods of sterilization and their uses. Chemical, dry heat, 2
steam sterilization, Tyndallization, filtration, sterilization by ultraviolet light.
9. Care and use of microscope. Dark ground illumination, fluorescence and 2
microscopy.
