Dramatic Poetry
is a form of poetry that is written in
verse and meant to be recited in
public or acted out.
HISTORY OF DRAMATIC POETRY
• Dramatic poetry is one of the oldest forms of
Western literature.
• It began in ancient Greece, where it was
performed as part of theater.
• Aeschylus, often called the "father of tragedy,"
wrote some of the first dramatic poems.
• His famous work, the Oresteia, is a great example
of early dramatic poetry in the form of a play.
TYPES OF DRAMATIC POETRY
Tragedy
Drama that has a tragic ending.
Comedy
a type of drama that has the purpose to
amuse and entertain.
Tragicomedy
-a type of drama that represent a series of
action where serious and comedic scenes are
blended.
-A composition part taking nature of both
tragedy and comedy

thoroughly. Focus on understanding the emotions
and themes expressed in the poem.
