[1] *AdBlue-equipped cars use a special fluid to reduce
harmful emissions from diesel engines, especially nitrogen
oxides. This helps make diesel vehicles more environmentally
friendly. Hybrid electric vehicles, on the other hand, combine a
fuel engine with an electric motor to reduce fuel consumption and
overall pollution. Both technologies are designed to lower
emissions and support cleaner, more sustainable driving.
[2] In Morocco, the adoption of AdBlue-equipped and
hybrid electric cars is gradually increasing as awareness of eco-friendly transportation grows. Hybrid
vehicle sales have risen notably, with over 6,000 units sold in 2023, and electric car sales are also
climbing. Supported by government incentives, these vehicles offer cleaner alternatives although
challenges like high costs and limited infrastructure still slow widespread adoption.
[3] AdBlue-equipped cars were introduced in Europe in the early 2000s to meet strict emission
standards, with Germany leading the way. In Morocco, they appeared around the mid-2010s, with
Casablanca being one of the first cities to adopt them, mainly in transport and logistics. While adoption
is slower than in Europe, Morocco is gradually using AdBlue to support cleaner air and eco-friendly
transport. "I appreciate AdBlue technology because it significantly reduces harmful emissions, making
diesel engines more eco-friendly. My car runs smoothly, and I’ve noticed improved fuel efficiency.
Refilling AdBlue is easy, and the environmental benefits outweigh the minor inconvenience,” Munir, an
environmentalist pointed out. Ali, a Moroccan customer in his turn, clarified, “the AdBlue-equipped
cars might reduce emissions, but I find it inconvenient and costly. The system requires frequent refills,
and if it runs out, the car won’t start. Also, AdBlue components can be prone to malfunctions, leading to
expensive repairs. I prefer a simpler, low-maintenance alternative."
[4] Hybrid and electric cars began gaining popularity in
the late 1990s, with the Toyota Prius launching in Japan in 1997.
Electric vehicles saw a resurgence in the 2000s, with Norway
leading adoption by the 2010s due to strong incentives provided
by the government. Supporters argue these cars reduce emissions
and fuel use, while critics highlight their high cost and
environmental impact from battery production, besides their
concerns about the second-hand value of their cars. "I recently
bought a BYD, and I’m loving it! The electric drive is smooth,
quiet, and eco-friendly, with great range and tech features. It’s
comfortable, safe, and I’m already saving on fuel. Such a vehicle uses up minimal fuel when I drive
slowly and prudently. I highly recommend it for anyone thinking of going electric!" Jaouad said.
[5] Overall, countries around the world are working together to promote eco-friendly cars like
hybrids and electric vehicles. They share technology, set global emission standards, and offer incentives
to reduce pollution. This cooperation helps make green cars more available and supports cleaner, more
sustainable transportation worldwide.
*AdBlue is a liquid used in some diesel cars and trucks to make the air cleaner.
