Fast Academic Rules or Constraints


1. An Academic year is divided into 2 semesters namely Spring and Fall, A
special summer semester may also be organized, if required, during June-
July.
2. Spring and Fall each of 17 weeks duration. A special summer semester of
8-weeks duration may also be organized, if required, during June-July.
3. Semester ending date must be greater than starting date.
4. There should me maximum of three semester per academic year and
minimum of two semester.
5. The roll number of a student should be unique
6. Students are required to maintain 100% attendance in lectures.
However, an absence of maximum of 20% of the total lecture attendance
may be condoned for genuine reasons, such as illness etc. Failure to meet
attendance requirements will render the student ineligible for appearing in
the final examination of the concerned course.
7. The medium of instruction and examinations for all courses is English
(except language courses other than English where it may be different).
However, students may opt to answer the ‘Religious and Islamic Studies’
examination in either English or Urdu.
8. Students are normally expected to register for five courses (15 to 18
credit hours). No exception is allowed to new students
9. Students studying under scholarships and Financial Aid (ICT, HEC,
FAST or others) must take full load.
10.Each student roll number shall be unique.
11.Financial Aid/Loan funded by FAST stands cancelled in the subsequent
semesters if a student falls in Academic Warning in any semester.
12.Students are required to register in fall and spring semesters and to pay
the prevalent semester fees. The student should clear all previous fees and
dues before registration.
13.There will be no tuition fee for the freeze semester but a freezing fee of
Rs 11000 would be charged as a freezing fee.
14.A student may freeze his/her semester for a maximum of 2 semesters,
15.Advance payment of Rs. 11000 per semester, being freezing fee.
16.Concurrent admission in more than one degree program is not allowed.
17.A student may request for adding course(s), provided that the course is
being offered in that semester and he/she has completed all the pre-
requisites. The request should be made within the first two weeks of a
semester.
18. Courses:
o Normal course load for undergrad student is 5 courses (15 to 18 credit hours).
o Pre-req of the offered course should be passed.
o Applied programming course is mandatory for the for the non-fastians MS
students.
o An ‘I’ will be given to a course in case of incomplete course.
19. Rules for courses in Summer semester
a. Student can register only those courses in which they had registered in a
previous semester.
b. Student can register only two courses with associated labs.
c. No new course is offered in summer semester.
d. No scholarship is available for summer semester.
e. Minimum10 student should register in summer course
f. Student can study summer course in other campus.
g. Visiting faculty is not employed in summer semester.

20. Exemption of Credits earned

a. Credit can be given for relevant courses only; in which the grade has been ‘C’
or higher (for Bachelor programs), and ‘B-’ or higher (for Master programs)
b. If credit is given for a course, then credit will also be given for its pre-
requisite course(s), provided a pass grade was earned in that course.
