Lesson ACTIVITIES KTP’s
1 Warm up: Cricket Circus (Ball handling) KTP’s
• Individual (one ball each) Underarm throw
o Drop and catch o Step
o Drop, clap and catch o Swing
o Drop circle and catch o Release
o Throw over shoulder and turn to catch
o Throw over shoulder catch behind back Overarm throw
Throwing o Hold ball above elbow, drop the ball and hit it with the elbow joint by straightening and o Side on
and catching extending the arm quickly o High elbows
o Bounce the ball as high as possible and catch o Follow through
o Bounce the ball spin and catch towards target

Activity 1 o Reach

Activity 2 • 16 markers
• Overarm throwing – In pairs, marker placed half-way between, pairs take in turns to attempt
to hit the marker
• Marker on the fool = 2 points, knocking marker over (not on fool) = 1 point

2 Warm up: Snowball tag Grip:
• One player starts with a ball (or beanbag) and is “it” • V

Activity 1: Hitting off cone – Front foot drive Technique
• Allocate students into groups of four. • Watch the ball!

• The batter hits the ball off the cone on the floor between the (High elbow)

• Fielding team = 1 bowler in the middle, 4 keepers and fielders outside diamond
• Bowler bowls to any of the 4 batters, must be from cone
• 1 run = batters running anticlockwise to the next wickets
• Innings = 3-5 outs
3 Warm up: Red Rover Equipment
• Select two students to begin with a bean bag each, standing in the • 32 bean bags
middle of the grid • 16 bats
• Students to line up along one side of the grid • 16 cricket balls
• Students must run from one side of the grid to the other without • 16 markers
getting hit by a bean bag
• The two students with the bean bags attempt to throw and hit
students below the waist
• If a student is hit below the waist with a bean bag, they are now in the
middle helping to get the others out.
• Players in the middle must work together and be strategic as to how they are going to get the
others out.
Activity 1: Batting race:
• Hit off tee (take it with you)
• Count how many hits it takes to reach the other side of the oval
• Can be completed as a race
Batting • Could be done in pairs as drop drill
Activity 2: Rapid fire
• Allocate students into even teams (7 or 8 in each)
• Batting team, one at a time, will hit 6 balls off 6 tees (in any order).
• Once all six balls are hit, batter will run between the wickets and a
cone to score extra runs (count how many runs)
• The fielding team is standing in a line between two marker cones
about 15 metres from batters.
• Fielders must stop the ball from going over the marked out cones
• Fielders are not allowed to be in front the marked out cones
• Once all six balls have been hit, the fielders must collect and run in
and place them back on the six tees then shout “HOW’S THAT?”
• Swap innings – team with most runs wins
• If batters hit the ball past the marked cones (through the fielders) they score 4 runs.
4 Warm up: KTP’s
• Throwing and catching with partner • high elbows then
straight arms
Activity 1: Rock and Bowl • arms swipe by ears
• In pairs – practise bowling action and ribs
• Cartwheel action, rock 3 times • follow through
o Side on to target (non-bowling arm facing target) towards target
o Hold ball with both hands under the chin
o Commencing rocking back and forth Equipment
o Extend both arms – bowling arm going low and non-bowling arm extending high • 16 cricket balls
o When comfortable straight arm towards the target whilst in forward rocking motion • 16 tennis balls
BOWLING • 8 wickets
Extension: “Bottom ball” – using tennis balls
• Pairs - bowlers bowl to each other.
• Target is their partner, they turn their back to their partner with their feet together, touching
their toes. This creates a target for their partner to aim for (replicating a set of stumps).
Activity 2: Bowling Relay
• Groups of 4
• Every time a ball is bowled – rotate wkt, bowler etc
• When wicket is hit – take out a stump
• Aim = race to knock out all stumps and the base

Game play • 2 wickets
GAME PLAY • Set up normal pitch • 30 cones
• added cones to hit off if a wide is bowled
• different coloured cones for the V = double points (encourage to hit straight)
• play in pairs – bowl together (1 bowler, 1 keeper) and bat together
• 4 overs each for batting – must keep your own score (if teacher not scoring)
• Fielders must find a new fielding position each over
Teach basic rules of the game – run outs, 6 balls per over etc.

Assessment practice
MODIFIED
GAMES Modified game: Bin cricket
Divide the class into four teams. Set up a two large diamonds with bowlers standing on bases and
four batters in the centre sharing a bin for a wicket. The four bowlers are able to bowl
simultaneously to the four batters. When a ball is hit the batter runs around the bowler's base. Any
ball fielded can go to any bowler to attempt to get the batter out. Batters are out if the ball is caught
on the full or if the ball hits the wicket.
