Introduction
PSY499A is offered to the students of BS Psychology. It is mandatory for all the students to
work on final Proposal according to the instructions/guidelines provided on VULMS of the
course and appear for Proposal Défense/presentation thereafter.
Objectives of the Course
• To enhance the analytical skills of the students by enabling them to address the
real-life issues and suggests solutions in the light of theoretical knowledge of
their relevant area of specialization and experience.
• To provide an opportunity to the students to explore new researchable avenues
in their relevant area of specialization for conducting research on the selected
problem, thus suggesting solutions thereafter.
Project
The working on the final project has been segregated into given steps. Submission is
required at each step.
1. Proposal
The proposal for project is required to be made according to the format uploaded on
VULMS of the course. This first proposal will not be graded but will be evaluated only. The
purpose of this first proposal is to provide guidance to the students.
2. Revised Proposal
Students will be required to submit revised proposal in the light of the instructions given
in the evaluated proposal as well as the guidelines and formats uploaded on VULMS of
the course. This proposal will also be evaluated. Only approved proposal by instructor
will be allowed for further work.
3. Proposal Defense
Proposal defense is a meeting consisting of panel of researchers to assure that the
plan proposed by students is complete and holds academic merit. In proposal
defense students will present their research idea, defend their selection of topic,
brief introduction of his/her research variables, and proposed research
methodology (research design, population, sample, sample size and other
characteristics of sample, and tool/measures).
Important Note: submission of proposal in soft copy and proposal defense will
be mandatory for all students. After approval of research topic in proposal defense
student will be able to continue his/her main work. Any student who fails to appear
in proposal defense will not be eligible for final submission.
Reference letter for Research Work
The Reference letter for Research Work will be issued to the students (if requested) after the
acceptance of proposal in response to provision of the following information:
• Name and designation of the contact person / addressee
• Name of the department and organization
• Complete address of the organization
• Telephone (contact) numbers of the person/organization
• Your own complete postal address (where you want to receive the letter)
• Your own contact numbers including cell number
Presentation & Viva Voce
Only those students will be called for Proposal Defense/presentation who will be
declared pass in the written work (final proposal). Call for presentation & viva
voce will be sent at the students' VU e- mail IDs. It will include date, time and
mode of presentation & viva voce.
Note:
Any student who fails to:
Appear in proposal defense shall not be called for presentation and viva voce.
Sequence of Submissions/Activities
A student will pass the course if he/she performs satisfactorily in all the below mentioned
sections otherwise will be considered as Fail.
Activity Stages Process
Those students who will have a correct and proposal
1. Submission of Proposal i.e., approved by the instructor will be allowed to
proceed for proposal defense.
2. Submission of revised Proposal Those students who will be declared pass in the
proposal will be called for proposal defense. Students
will prepare PPTs and present their work.
Students who will be able to defend the written work by
presenting effectively and answering the questions asked
3. Proposal defense and approval of by the panel satisfactorily will be declared pass and
synopsis preceded for final project.
It is compulsory for the students to pass all the above
4. Whole course stages in order to be declared pass in the whole course.
