ANALYSIS OF LEARNT KNOWLEDGE AND APPLIED SKILLS

Data maintenance: Documentation of any information is crucial in any firm for easier
reference in case of any complaint from members within and people outside the organization.

Communication skills: I was able to interact with customers as they made enquiries of
information in their accounts. The best thing was to give out the correct information that
satisfy our customers and make sure they understand.

Computer Knowledge: I applied my computer literacy to complete the tasks through

computer programs. Basically, the services are computerized an all areas. So, the information
should be without error.

Book Keeping: All documents were recorded in the computer system and also in the books
for safety.

PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCE GAINED

Punctuality which is a must is a rule to be followed in the organization. Time management is
key to achieving organization’s goals.

Communication skills is also a core pillar of any organization. Showing good etiquette and
politeness in handling the customers and staff members which ought to be observed at all
times for proper performance.

Good work habits by being disciplined and descent dressing code should always be practiced.

Team work is important. I learned that all staffs are supposed to work together so that the
equality is maintained among staff members and also to ensure high productivity.

Confidentiality levels demands that no information is given outside the SACCO.

I learnt how to use the computer system and worked various tasks and uploaded information
into the system.

Technical work experiences through day-to-day tasks that I was able to undertake and report
on.

6
OBSERVATION
During my attachment period I observed these:
Proper keeping of files is important since it makes search easier in case of complaint from
individuals.

Computer system makes work easier in any organization.

Proper communication and good interaction are crucial to any organization.

Honest, integrity, hard work and commitment are very important aspects in work place, this
helps to motivate the employees.

STRATEGIES TO IMPLY ON ANALYSIS

THE SWOT ANALYSIS
SWOT stands for Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity and Threats. This helps the organization
to plan well so that they achieve the best performance as planned and see the future plans.

The strengths enable the organization to attract, retain members, offer the best services,
improvement in the technological system and achieve positive profits.

The weaknesses are internal attributes that affect the organization. In order to achieve the
desired goals, the organization must identify all weakness and solve them so that the
employees and members are all motivated.

Opportunities that an organization needs to learn which are external include, the changes like
the government fiscal and monetary policy, political changes in the country and the trends
brought in the technological world.

The Threats that the organization faces which are external are like Unfavorable Government
policies and the stiff competition from other organizations.

CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED AND PROBLEMS FACED

Problem of securing a place for attachment.
This is the major challenge faced by students. Most firms need a professional student to
tackle some activities. Some firms are not willing to offer opportunities for students seeking
attachment places.

Lack of computer systems

We were sharing computers with my supervisors and they had put restrictions so that I was
not able to learn more tasks. Also the system was failing due to upgrades and maintenances.

7
Monotony of work
Continuous doing of similar work which leads to boredom at the work place.

Harassment by customers
Some customers were very rude and they cannot listen and understand the students which end
up in chaos and miss understanding.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTED IMPROVEMANTS TO MAKE THE

PROGRAMME WORTHWHILE
On the challenge of finding an a firm for attachment, I would recommend to the university to
enter into agreement with certain organizations in which those who don’t succeed in securing
any place for attachment after given date, they can be referred to those companies instead of
defering the industrial attachment.

The practical training period is not enough to acquire all the necessary skills and knowledge
needed. The university should try and liaise with other institutions from which students can
seek attachment and increase the learning period from the initial 8 weeks.

To the students they have to be serious and follow their training well because the training will
help them in their future working life.

To the organization, they need to improve their technological equipment and create a
conducive environment for both customers and staff members.

SUMMARY
The attachment programs are the links between theoretical studies and real applications. The
program is designed to assist students to link up the skills learned in class with the application
in the field and hence equipping the students with necessary skills required in the job place
some of which can only be learnt through physical interaction with the work. This process
has enabled me to gain more knowledge and skills from the practical basis. TNT DT SACCO
has helped me a lot as it was my bridge during my attachment process. I learned that time to
come I will be employed and so I will apply the skills learned wherever I will find myself.

Generally, as a student who is hoping to work in the future, I learned work ethics and how to
apply them. Also, as an employee I should work hard and bring positive results in any
organization hopping to get some employment.

CONCLUSIONS
In conclusion, industrial attachment is crucial and beneficial for students undertaking
Bachelor of Commerce because it presents a practical experience of skills learnt in classes.
