Research Statement

Since 2016, I have been working with Prof. P. K. Mehta, and Prof. Rakesh Kumar at MNNIT
Allahabad, India on Self Compacting Concrete (SCC), and the title of my thesis was “Sulphate
Effect on Binary Admixture Mixed Self Compacting Concrete.” I made my dissertation of
Doctorate thesis in Structural Engineering- Concrete Technology in December 2021, and the degree
has awarded on 18th January 2022.

My research focuses on the utilization of waste materials in concrete, especially Self Compacting
Concrete, and the study of its micro-structural changes. Further, studying the durability aspect of
concrete in different aggressive environments was an integral part of my Ph.D. work. I have worked
with different aspects of concrete technology and materials to develop a sustainable, eco-friendly, and
cost-effective solution.

I worked, since April, 2022 to April 2024 at the Civil and Building Engineering Department, of the
University of Sherbrooke, Canada, with Prof. Arezki Tagnit-Hamou as a Post Doctoral Researcher.
My work was in collaboration with the Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ), QC, Canada, the
Industrial Chair for Research in the area of valorization of waste glass in materials and their
applications on the different sites in different conditions of Quebec regions along with other projects,
viz., Nemaska, ClaysON.

Till now, I have an h-index of 7 and 145 citations. The most cited research is on Silica fume
incorporation in the preparation of durable concrete. Also, I have been a member of some professional
bodies, viz., the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Structural Engineering Institute (SEI)
since 2018 and American Concrete Institute (ACI) since 2019.

Future Work Plan

I want to expand my work that is focused on developing concrete with the incorporation of different
supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs)/ admixtures, fibers, and aggregates replacement for
eco-friendly, cost-effective, and sustainable concrete. This is much-needed work to protect our
environment by decreasing carbon footprint by using these alternative/ waste materials in the
production of concrete which also makes structures durable.
The plan of future research is also the design and production of suitable concrete based on their
properties; it also includes- Investigation of fresh, hardened, and micro-structural characteristics,
Investigating the environmental impacts on concrete, and Non-destructive testings for mechanical
properties. Mathematical/ fuzzy modeling can also be incorporated into future works.
Mainly my focus will be on the valorization of industrial by-products, development of ecological and
geopolymer concrete, engineering applications of nanoparticles and nano-fibers in concrete, long-term
concrete durability, pathology of concrete, 3D concrete printing, and development of low carbon
cement/ concrete.

Further, I would like to work on the following areas- alkali-activated concrete, bacterial concrete,
carbon sequestering, and some innovative binders (Calcium sulfoaluminate cement, low carbon
clinkerisation cement, etc.), if found an opportunity.
At the present time, the major concern for concrete is the durability issues and reducing the use of
cement in the production of concrete for environmental problems.
So, my research will focus on utilizing some new waste materials/ alternative binders/ CO2 sequestering
in concrete and the study of its long-term behavior/ performance. It will help to develop cost-effective,
environmentally friendly, sustainable, and durable concrete.
To accomplish the objective, I will follow the following steps;
• Characterize the raw materials
• Their effects on concrete workability with some variation
• Optimization of material
• Evaluation of concrete fresh, hardened, durability, and microstructural properties in the long
term.
• The cost analysis
