UNDERSTANDING OF SCOPE OF SERVICES
1.1. Objective:
We hereby request agency to provide quotations for carrying out Geotechnical investigations
in the proposed alignment from Dhamankar naka station to Durgadi chowk station.
This document covers the minimum technical requirements for conducting the Geotechnical
Investigations. This specification outlines the methods and Standards/codes to be followed
for the geotechnical investigation.
1.2. Project location:
The project involves design and preparation of DPR for the proposed metro line 5
connecting Dhamankar naka to Durgadi chowk via Bhiwandi.

1.3. Scope of Services
This specification covers the work required for Geotechnical Investigation and preparation
of a detailed report. The Investigation agency shall carry out necessary geotechnical
investigations.
• Carrying out Geotechnical investigation for 4 boreholes.
• Collecting samples from Trial pits.
• Testing of collected samples at laboratory.
• Preparation and submission of geotechnical report in the required format (Refer 2.1).

preserving the same for future reference,

core boxes, all the handling charges and dispatching of
the selected soil samples (samples to cover over all
representation of substrata which are not obtained by
UDS and SPT) to Laboratory for carrying out testing in

engineer in charge.

Drilling vertically through boulders and hard rock

Obtaining 90 mm diameter 450 mm long undisturbed
soil samples using Shelby tube at every 3m interval up
or at change of strata alternate to SPT from boreholes
and sealing and labelling the container. all as per the

soil sample shall be collected only in soft to stiff clay
having SPT value up to 20 and medium stiff to hard clay

Note: Undisturbed Soil Sample (UDS) shall be
completely coated with paraffin wax and shall be
kept under shade at no time to be exposed to direct
sunlight. UDS shall be transported to Laboratory
within seven days after completion of bore hole.
Conducting Standard Penetration tests in soil, soft and
weathered rock at 1.5 m intervals or at every change of
strata alternate to undisturbed sampling and collecting

laboratory for obtaining field moisture content all as
per the specification and as directed by Engineer.
Conducting SPT in rock with RQD less than 25% all as

Conducting soil resistivity tests at the specified locations
as per IS: 3043 for earthing and corrosivity of soil by
Wenner’s four electrode method. The tests at each
location shall be conducted as a series of tests with the
distances between the electrodes as 1.5 m, 3 m, 6 m, 9m
and 12m each on either side along each row axis etc. and

1.6. Codes and Standards
All geotechnical investigation shall be carried out by personnel with specialized training and
experience in soil mechanics and foundation engineering. In principle the following Codes and
Standards shall be applied for the geotechnical investigation, testing, and design.
The work shall be carried out in accordance with American Standards/Codes. All standards

2.2. Key Deliverables.
The Contract shall be for a period of 15 days from the date of acceptance of this Agreement
and shall be extendable at the same terms and conditions for subsequent period at the sole
discretion of MMRDA. No extra amount would be claimed by the Consultant due to time
delay or any other reasons.

2.Safety norms
2.3. All your workmen and other staff shall take proper safety precautions. The safety rules
cover wearing of safety shoes, helmets, life jackets, belts and such other measures required
to ensure safety of personnel. Vendor shall be taking all the necessary insurance required
for this work at their cost.
