1. INTRODUCTION

This document covers the structural design of the Proposed 5-Storey school classroom, located
at #SITIO CAB-ASAN,PUTTINGBATO, ESPERANZA, MASBATE. The structural system &
parameters used, and loading combinations for the project are considered on the analysis based
on codes and standards.

2. DESIGN CRITERIA
2.1 GENERAL CODES AND REFERENCES

The Order of precedence of codes and standards for Construction and Planning shall be as
follows:
a. Client Specified Criteria and Code Requirements (if any)
b. National Structural Code of the Philippines - (NSCP2015 Edition)
c . Uniform Building Code 1997 - (UBC)
d. American Concrete Institute 318-2011 - (ACI)
e. International Building Code 2006 - (IBC)
f. American Society for Testing and Materials - (ASTM)

2.DESIGN LOADS
 Dead Loads
The loads that follow do not include the self-weight of structural members. Further, except as
noted. Specific loading information for the elevators and mechanical equipment hasn’t been
included. Dead loads shall be determined in accordance with known unit weights of materials and
based on dimensions shown on architectural and structural drawings.

a. Concrete Unit Weight - 150 pcf / 2400 kg/m³

b. Soil Unit Weight

c. Others – Equipment weights shall be based on actual loadings.

d. concrete hollowblocks – 3.32 Kn/m^3

 Live Loads
Live loads are reducible in accordance with ASCE 7-05 (4.8 Reduction in Live Loads) except where
noted NR (not Reducible).

2.4 MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

 Reinforced Concrete
All Reinforced Concrete work shall conform to ACI 318-08 specifications (Concrete Quality, Mixing,
and Placing) and will have the following minimum compressive cylinder strength at 28 days:
( THIS SITUITION I WILL BE ASSUME )

1. Foundation fc’ = 2,500 psi / 17.25 MPa

2. Columns fc’ = 3,000 psi / 20.7 MPa
3. Slabs and Beams fc’ = 3,000 psi / 20.7 MPa
4. Slab on Grade fc’ = 2,500 psi / 17.25 MPa
5. Stairs fc’ = 3,000 psi / 20.7 MPa

 Reinforcing Steel

All reinforcement shall be deformed bars conforming to the requirements as specified below and
meet bend requirement of ASTM A617.
1. Diameter 10 & 16 fy = 40,000 psi / 275 MPa
2. Diameter 20 to 36 fy = 60,000 psi / 414 MPa

2.5 STRUCTURAL DESIGN STANDARD

 Structural Calculation Guidelines

a. Structural computations must be carried out by currently recognised

techniques of
design and analysis.
b. All lateral and gravitational loads must be included in structural analysis
and design.

equivalent loads must be included.
loading.
c. Combinations of loads must adhere to the most recent permitted
norms.
d. Structural calculations must be completed in an orderly and well-
organised manner.
style. Every page must have a complete title and be consecutively
numbered, as must every volume.

be indicated in the location of occurrence.
e. Computer-based structural computations must be arranged, indexed,
and
adequately indicated on input forms and output data so that every piece
of information can be
compiled. Program descriptions must incorporate the analytical principles
utilised in the
programs. Programs must have adequate documentation so that input
data and
The resulting data is easily comprehensible.

 Computer Programs

The illustration of the mathematical framework that was utilised to depict the structure in
the Analysis produced by a computer must be presented. Among the computations might

2.6 DESIGN PHILOSOPY

 Concrete Design
a. Reference and Codes
 National Structural Code of the Philippines
 American Concrete Institute 318-08
 Uniform Building Code 1997
b. Philosophy
The building will be created with the Ultimate Design approach, which is founded on
the cited above. There are several approaches that may be applied, such as Working
Stress design) as considered required to adhere to the serviceability and power.
c. Detailing
The structure shall be detailed based on the code and references shown above. Special
detailing based on seismic requirement shall be based on Detailing Manual of ACI.

3. COMPUTER SOFTWARE

The project was analyzed using Educational Software STAAD Pro Connect. Structural
elements are modeled as follows:
1. Floor Elements
2. Columns and Beams – Line Elements

4. 3D MODEL - STAAD
A commercial software STAAD was used on the design and analysis of the structures.

5. GENERAL INPUT PARAMETERS

Figure shows the general input for structural analysis. A 3D model was made and necessary
assignments are done to provide properties for the model.
