A نونwith Jazm sign is called Double Zabar, double Zayr
نونSaakinah. and double Paysh are called

What is Ghunnah?
Ghunnah means to take the The duration of the Ghunnah
sound into the nose. should be equal to one Alif.
Methods to pronounce the نونSaakinah and Tanween
01. Sometimes the نونSaakinah is quite clear. It’s done in Izhar.
02. Sometimes the نونSaakinah is read by
hiding the sound in Makhraj. It’s done in Ikhfa.
03. Sometimes the نونSaakinah is read by
It’s done in Idgham.
joining with the next letter.
04. Sometimes the نونSaakinah is changed into م. It’s done in Iqlab.
نونSaakinah and Tanween
There are four cases regarding نونSaakinah and Tanween:
If any of the Halqiyyah letters is present after نونSaakinah or Tanween,
then Izhar will be done i.e. nasalization (Ghunnah) will not be done.
The Halqiyyah letters are six in number and they are:
Words of Izhar
ِب ْس ِم اللّٰ ِہ ال َّر ْح ّٰم ِن ال َّر ِح ْی ِم۞
ِم ْن َّح ِک ْیم ِم ْن عَّلَّق ِم ْن َّھاد ِم ْن ا َّ َّجل
جرف َّھار َّبل َّ ًدا ّٰا ِم ًنا فَّ َّسی ْن ِغض ْو َّن َّوالْم ْن َّخ ِن َّقۃ
اح َّس ًنا قَّلِ ْیل َّۃ غَّل َّ َّب ْت َّرفْ َّرف خ ْ
ضر قَّ ْر ًض َّ خلق َّع ِظ ْیم
نونSaakinah and Tanween
If any of the Ikhfa letter is present after نونSaakinah or Tanween, then
Ikhfa will be done, Ghunnah will be done.
Ikhfa letters are 15 in number and they are:
Words of Ikhfa
ِب ْس ِم اللّٰ ِہ ال َّر ْح ّٰم ِن ال َّر ِح ْی ِم۞
ِم ْن د ْونِک ْم ِم ْن ج ْو ع ِم ْن َّث َّم َّرۃ ا َّ ْن َّ
ت
َّباْس َّش ِد ْید َّم ْن َّس ِف َّہ فَّاِ ْن َّزلَّلْت ْم ِم ْن َّذ َّھب
َّن ْفس َّظل َّ َّم ْت َّس ْب ًحا َّط ِو ْی ًال عَّ َّذا ًبا ِض ْع ًفا َّع َّمال ً َّصا لِ ًحا
بِ ْ ٌی ر َّ ق حٌتْ َّ ف َّث َّم ًنا قَّلِ ْی ًال سب ًال ِف َّجا ًجا َّرس ْول َّک ِر ْیم
نونSaakinah and Tanween
Idgham will be done when any letter of Yarmalun is present after نونSaakinah or
Tanween. In case of " "رand " "لIdgham will be done without Ghunnah and in case of
remaining 4 letters, Idgham will be done with Ghunnah
Yarmalun letters are 6 in number and they are:
Words of Idgham
ِب ْس ِم اللّٰ ِہ ال َّر ْح ّٰم ِن ال َّر ِح ْی ِم۞
ِم ْن ن ْط َّفۃ ِم ْن َّم ْْش ََّد ِم ْن َّو ِل َّم ْن یَّق ْول
ھ ًدی َّو ِذ ْک ّٰری ِک َّتا ًبا یَّل ْ ّٰقہ َّیک ْن لَّہ ِ ْ ِ َّ
ک برَّ ن م
م َّص ِدقًا لِ َّما ف َّر ِح ْی ٌم
َّرء ْو ٌ َّخل ْق ن ِع ْیدہ ِب َّر ْح َّمۃ ِم ْنہ
نونSaakinah and Tanween
If the letter “ ”بis present after " "نSaakinah or Tanween, then do Iqlab i.e. change
the “ ”نSaakinah or Tanween into میمand do Ikhfa i.e. pronounce with Ghunnah.
Words of Iqlab
ِب ْس ِم اللّٰ ِہ ال َّر ْح ّٰم ِن ال َّر ِح ْی ِم۞
لَّی ْن ْۢ َّبذَّ َّن ا َّ ْن ْۢ ِب ْئَ ْم ِم ْ ْۢ
ن َّب ْقلِ ََّا ِم ْ ْۢ
ن َّب ْع ِد
ِح ٌل ِْۢب َّٰذَّ ا ص ٌم ْۢ ب ْ
ک ٌم َّج َّنۃ ْۢ ِب َّر ْب َّوۃ قَّ ْو ًًل ْۢ َّبلِ ْی ًغا
ْیا
ْیا ْۢ َّب ِص ًْ
َّخ ِب ًْ ِک َّرام ْۢ َّب َّر َّرۃ

َّواللٰ ُہٌۢ ُمح ْیطٌۢبا لْ ٰکفر ْی َّ ٌۢ غ ٰش َّو ۫ۃ ٌَّۢو لَّ ُہ ْمٌۢعَّذَّ ابٌۢ َّعظ ْیمٌۢ﴿﴾۷
