A. A common problem of texting B. Direct communication is less
popular
C. A new fun way of communicating D. Effects on children
29.___________
Texting is a new way of exchanging information, and it is becoming more and more popular
among the young. In fact, texting is clearly affecting language. There are no rules for it. We are
creating a new aspect of vocabulary and opening a new kind of playful and direct
communication.
30. __________
Naturally, texting is fun, but some people are worried about the effects it might have on a
child’s ability to read and write. The unofficial language might be used by them, and it will
probably affect their writing style. An expert says, “Every time a new medium comes along it
has an effect on language, but this doesn’t destroy the existing language, it adds to it.”
31. _________
In text messages, many words come from shorthand created in emails. After that, they have
become popular and accepted somehow. Someone says, “Mostly they are original, but
sometimes you get a clash of meanings. For example, LOL can mean both Laugh Out Loud and
Lots of Love. That could lead to some misunderstandings.”
32._________
In short, texting is real-time communication but is not in person. It is considered as a reason for
the decrease of the face-to-face frequency among people. Everything has two sides and either it
is good or bad, it is up to human.

TAPESCRIPT:

I have to work with computers and phones all the time in my work, either sitting in front of a
screen or living by the apps on my mobile. I like to use phones. Now with Facebook, Twitter,
and so on, I have to use social networking sites more often. I feel so sticked to technology
during the working week. So when the weekend comes, on Saturday morning – there’s nothing
I like better than switching off the computer, the mobile and the landline and enjoying real
peace and quiet. We live near to some fields and open country, and I can listen to the birds sing,
go for long walks, maybe drop in at our local pub and have a drink with some of the locals. It’s
not exciting, but it’s very relaxing and helps me remember I’m a human being, not a part of
some machine. Of course, by Sunday night I’m already thinking about the working week ahead,
but never mind. I’ve had those two days to recharge myself.
