Important note!
Jumbo Long Cat
This pattern is worked from top to bottom. You first make the (optional) muzzle, then start
making the head & body. And finally the limbs: ears, arms, legs & tail.
Feel free to use the yarn and materials you are comfortable with. You only need to make
sure that you use the corresponding hook size.
Colour changing
This pattern requires colour changes. If you aren't familiar or need a refresher you can
check out the following tutorial: Video how to change colours
Working in continuous rounds
Since you are working in a spiral, the belly will be slanted. Feel free to use the joined
round method, if you want the belly to be more centered.
Crochet in the same ST
In the pattern, I'll mention to 'crochet in the same ST', this means that instead of working
in the next ST you make an increase ST.
Muzzle
Use white yarn - 6 mm hook/hook size to suit
your yarn
You can choose to skip the muzzle, if you
want.
R1: in MR: HDC, DC, HDC, SL ST, CH,
HDC, DC, HDC, SL ST
Fasten off, leave a long enough tail for
sewing. The long tail end is on the bottom.
See picture A.1
Nose
Embroider a nose in the middle of the
muzzle, using 2.5 mm brown cotton yarn. I
wrapped the yarn 3 times around to create a
small nose.
Keep the tail end to embroider a vertical
stripe after the muzzle is sewn onto the head.
See picture A.2
4
Head & body
Start in grey yarn - 6 mm hook/hook size to
suit your yarn, change to white yarn at the
bolded sections.
R1: 8SC in MR (8)
R2: INC x8 (16)
R3: [SC, INC] x8 (24)
R4: [2SC, INC] x8 (32)
R5: 8SC, [INC] x4, 8SC, [INC] x4, 8SC (40)
R6: 40SC (40)
See picture B
After this round, the sides will curl a bit
upwards, push them down in the next rounds.
R7: [4SC, INC] x8 (48)
R8 - R9: 48SC (48) - 2 rounds
See picture C
R10: 23SC, 3SC, 22SC (48)
See picture D
R11 - R12: 22SC, 5SC, 21SC (48) - 2 rounds
R13: 21SC, 7SC, 20SC (48)
R14: 20SC, 9SC, 19SC (48)
See picture E
5
R15 - R16: 18SC, 13SC, 17SC (48) - 2 rounds
R17: [6SC, DEC] x2, 2SC, 4SC, DEC, 6SC,
DEC, [6SC, DEC] x2 (42)
R18: 16SC, 12SC, 14SC (42)
See picture F
At this point, sew on the muzzle & make the
expression, before you continue.
Muzzle
Sew the muzzle on R12 through R14, in the
middle of the white part of the face.
Then use the brown cotton yarn tail to make a
vertical stripe from the nose over the muzzle
part. And pull tight to create the shape of the
muzzle. See picture G
Facial expression
Eyes
Use 6 mm brown blanket yarn to embroider
the eyes on R11 & R12, 7STS between the
eyes. Or put safety eyes between R11 & R12.
Wrap the yarn 3 times around the STS, to
create the eye shape. See picture H
Whiskers
Use 2.5 mm brown cotton yarn to embroider
the whiskers 1ST beside the eyes on R12
(diagonally upwards) & the 2nd one on R13
(horizontally), 2STS wide. See picture I
6
Continue Body
The arms will be attached to the next 4 rounds
you are making.
R19 - R22: 18SC, 8SC, 16SC (42) - 4 rounds
See picture J
You are now going to make the body part.
Tip:
You can customise the length: add or subtract
rounds to your liking.
R23 - R52: 16SC, 12SC, 14SC (42) - 30 rounds
After R30, start stuffing. You want to make sure
that you stuff the cat round & evenly. Don't stuff
too firmly, to keep it somewhat squishy.
See picture K
After R40, see pictures L & M
After R52, see pictures N & O, Pg.8.
As you can see the tummy is off center. If you
used the joined round method, the belly
should be more centred.
Tip on how to center the belly
Knead the stuffing around so the white belly is
somewhat centered. Twist the cat the opposite
way the belly is curving. It will not be perfectly
in the center, because you are working in a
spiral! Continue on Pg.8.
7
The legs will be attached to the next 4 rounds
you are making.
R53 - R55: 16SC, 12SC, 14SC (42) - 3 rounds
Cut off white yarn & continue in grey yarn
R56: 42SC (42)
Take your time stuffing the body firmly, so its
evenly stuffed. Don’t overstuff it, so it’s still
squishy.
R57: in BLO: 42SC (42)
Push down the bottom of the next rounds.
Make sure that the bottom is flat, so the cat can
stand. See picture P
R58: [5SC, DEC] x6 (36)
R59: [4SC, DEC] x6 (30)
See picture Q
R60: [3SC, DEC] x6 (24)
R61: [SC, DEC] x8 (16)
R62: DEC x8 (8)
Fasten off, leave a long enough tail to close the
hole & weave in yarn end.
No worries if it isn't very stable, the legs & tail
will add more support. See pictures R & S, Pg.9
8
Ears x2
Use grey yarn
R1: 6SC in MR (6)
R2: INC x6 (12)
R3: [2SC, INC] x4 (16)
Fasten off, leave a long enough tail for sewing.
Fold the ears flat & sew the tops together.
No need to stuff. See picture T.1
Use pins to pick a placement & shape them to
your liking on the head.
Sew them on R4 through R8. See pictures T.2
& T.3
9
Arms x2
Start in white yarn, change to grey yarn when
indicated
R1: 8SC in MR (8)
R2: [3SC, INC] x2 (10)
R3 - R5: 10SC (10) - 3 rounds
Change to grey yarn & cut off white yarn
R6 - R11: 10SC (10) - 6 rounds
Fasten off, leave a long enough tail for sewing.
Optional: do an invisible finish off.
Stuff not too firmly, so the arms can bend
slightly. See picture U.1
Sew the arms to the body
Attach them at the grey gap, R19 through
R22 on both sides, 8STS between them. Each
arm 4STS wide. See picture U.2
You can adjust the droopiness of the paws by
sewing the top part of the arms onto more
rounds!
Then slightly bend the paws to your liking.
See pictures U.3 & U.4
10
Legs x2
Start in white yarn, change to grey yarn when
indicated
Feel free to add more (grey) rounds, if your cat
needs more support.
R1: 8SC in MR (8)
R2: [3SC, INC] x2 (10)
R3 - R4: 10SC (10) - 2 rounds
Change to grey yarn & cut off white yarn
R5 - R6: 10SC (10) - 2 rounds
R7: [4SC, INC] x2 (12)
Fasten off, leave a long enough tail for sewing
Stuff the legs. Do an invisible finish off. See
picture V.1
Sew the legs to the body
Attach them on R53 through 56, just above
the FLO of R57. I left 9STS between them.
See picture V.2
Since the belly is slanted, the left leg is only
over 1 white ST of the belly & the right leg
over 2 white STS. You can adjust to your
liking! See pictures V.3 & V.4
11
Tail
Start in white yarn, change to grey yarn when
indicated
R1: 6SC in MR (6)
R2: 6SC (6)
R3: [2SC, INC] x2 (8)
R4: 8SC (8)
Change to grey yarn & cut off white yarn
R5 - R16: 8SC (8) - 12 rounds
Start stuffing halfway, don't stuff too firmly.
Make sure that you can still bend it.
Fasten off, leave a long enough tail for sewing.
Do an invisible finish off.
See picture W.1
Sew the tail to the body
Attach the tail above the FLO of R57, sew it 3
rounds up (R54 - R56), around the middle of
the back. See picture W.2
To make sure that the tail stays wrapped
around the body, sew the sides of the top &
bottom of the tail halfway.
See pictures W.3 & W.4
12
Toe beans x2
As a finishing touch, cut toe beans out of
pink felt & glue them on the white part
of the arms.
Toe beans
Middle round x2
Make the middle round big enough that it
fits onto R3 & R4.
They are slightly smaller than 2 STS in
width & height.
Smaller rounds x6
Cut out 6 tiny rounds - a bit smaller than
a ST each.
See picture X.1
On both arms
Glue the middle round on R3 & R4 on
each arm. Then glue 3 tiny rounds
around the middle round on R2 & R3.
See picture X.2
Blush
Lastly, apply some blush to the cheeks if
you want. Or use felt/ embroider them on
the face.
See picture X.3 & X.4

Fun Tip
You can choose to use a different type of
yarn and size of hook to make a more
chonky or even smaller sized Long Cat.
You can also work with double strands, if
you want a larger cat & don't have
chunkier yarn.
Change up the colours, expression,
materials and add your own style and
finishing touch to it.
