the question given below it.
Exports and imports, a swelling favourable balance of trade, investments and bank-balances, are not an index or a balance sheet of
national prosperity. Till the beginning of the Second World War, English exports were noticeably greater than what they are today.
And yet England has greater national prosperity today than it ever had. Because the income of average Englishmen, working as eld
and factory labourers, clerks, policemen, petty shopkeepers and shop assistants, domestic workers and other low-paid workers,
has gone up.The passage best supports the statement that:
English trade has continually increased since the Second World War.

Bantu is the generic name of a large group of native tribes dwelling in equatorial and southern Africa. The group includes more than 200
tribes, which vary in racial admixture and physical type. Among the most representative tribes are the Zulus of South Africa, the Congo of
West Central Africa, the Swahili of Tanganyika, and the Ganda of Uganda. The Bantu people likely migrated from the north, and occupied all
the southern projection of Africa. This began probably in the 3rd century AD with the occupation of the fertile eastern and coastal stretches
of the country. The age and former accomplishments of Bantu culture are shown in the great ruins of Zimbabwe in Southern Rhodesia.
Engineering and stone masonry was practiced there with advanced skill at least 1300 years ago. These arts have not survived, but iron
smelting, which was known to Bantu blacksmiths in early prehistoric times, is practiced in almost every tribe. Wood carving is typical of the
forest tribes, and the masks and decorative carvings of the Congo basin represent a highly developed style which, with African Negro art in
general, strongly in uenced modern European artists after about 1906. Contemporary Bantu artists show remarkable aptitude for painting,
and the styles which they are developing have been acclaimed by many critics. Above all, the Bantu tribesmen are masters of rhythmic
music. Intricate patterns of interlocking drum rhythms are an integral part of their lifestyles and rituals. The southward movement of the
Bantu people to the areas they now inhabit was completed by about the15th century. About that time the rst Europeans, the Portuguese,
arrived in Africa and came into contact with them. During succeeding centuries the Bantu became known to the English, Dutch, Spaniards,
and other European peoples whose soldiers, missionaries, and traders had penetrated Africa. Gradually trade agreements were ended with
local chiefs and the indigenous products came into commercial demand. Local products such as palm oil and copra were exported; coffee,
cotton, and pyrethrum plantations were developed; rich diamond deposits were found in South Africa. By the 19th century the trade
agreements had been transformed into treaties placing the Bantu tribes under foreign colonial administrations. Social organization of the
Bantu tribes ranges from a relatively simple form in which tribes are divided into largely autonomous villages, each governed by a respected
headman and a council of elders, to highly organized states with a hierarchy of hereditary chiefs, some of whom have become powerful
military leaders and conquerors. The Bagada and Watutsi states have retained considerable power even under colonial rule. In the local
community, individuals whose personalities are outstanding are generally considered undesirable, possibly because they are potential
competitors of the medicine man. The latter is often the most powerful person in the tribe, for it is perceived that he controls the evil spirits
that cause sickness and misfortune. Many of the Bantu have been converted to Christianity through the efforts of missionaries. Within the
last 80 years the colonial governments and Christian missions have brought elementary education and modern medical facilities to many
of the remotest villages, although more than half of the Bantus are still illiterate and disease continues to a major problem. The modern
Bantu is very rapidly becoming a Westernized miner, mechanic, truck driver, or of ce clerk, or attending an institution of higher education at
Natal, Nairobi or Leopoldville.
Q31. According to the author of the passage, the organizational structures that govern Bantu tribes
are various.
Common Content:
Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it. Certain words have been printed in bold to help you locate
them while answering some of the questions.
When wealth came into existence, a moral structure was made around money. The Puritan legacy inhibited luxury and self-indulgence.
Thoughtful people spread a practical gospel that emphasized hard work, temperance and frugality and the result was quite remarkable.
The world has been af uent since its founding. But it was, by and large, not corrupted by wealth. For centuries, it remained industrious,
ambitious and frugal. Over the past 30 years, much of that has been shredded. The social norms and institutions that encouraged frugality
and spending what you earn have been undermined. The institutions that encourage debt and living for the moment have been
strengthened. The moral guardians are forever looking for decadence out of movies and reality shows. But the most rampant decadence
today is nancial decadence, the trampling of decent norms about how to use and harness money.
The deterioration of nancial traditions has meant two things. First, it has meant an explosion of debt that inhibits social mobility and ruins
lives. Second, the transformation has led to a stark nancial polarization. On one hand, there is what is called an investor class. It has tax-
deferred savings plans, as well as an army of nancial advisers. On the other hand, there is the lottery class, people with little access to
nancial planning but plenty of access to payday lenders, credit cards and lottery agents. The loosening of nancial inhibition has meant
more options for the well-educated but more temptation and chaos for the most vulnerable. Social norms, the invisible threads that guide
behavior, have deteriorated. Over the past years, people have been more socially conscious about protecting the environment and inhaling
tobacco. They have become less socially conscious about money and debt.
The agents of destruction are many and State governments have also played a role. They hawk their lottery products with aggression,
which some people call a tax on stupidity. Twenty per cent of the world’s population consists of frequent players, spending about $60 billion
a year. Aside from the nancial toll, the moral toll is comprehensive. Here is the government, the guardian of order, telling people that they
don’t have to work to build for the future. They can strike it rich for nothing. Payday lenders have played a role. They seductively offer fast
cash-at absurd interest rates –to 15 million people every month. Credit card companies have played a role. Instead of targeting the
nancially astute, who pay off their debts, they have found that they can make money off the young and vulnerable. Fifty-six percent of
students in their nal year of college carry four or more credit cards. The nation’s leaders have played a role as they have always had an
incentive to shove costs for current promises onto the backs of future generations. It has only now become respectable to do so. The
market itself has played a role. Software stalwarts built socially useful products to make their fortune. But what message do the salary
packages that their top, managers get send across the country when they ignore millions of fellow countrymen who suffer from poverty,
malnutrition or hunger? Austerity has become a thing of the past.
Q35. Which of the following statements would weaken the argument made by the author in the given
paragraph?
Q36. What does the author mean by the phrase 'the transformation has led to a stark nancial polarization'
as used in the passage?
The deterioration of social norms has bene ted only the
wealthy and the knowledgeable while the vulnerable class
of people has fallen into a debt trap
Q37. Which one of the phrases given below the following statement should be placed in the blank space
provided so as to make a meaningfully correct sentence in the context of the passage? …… many State
governments have been encouraging people to invest their money in lottery.

Solution
Firstly, you have to divide the problem in three parts, so that it will help you in collecting more clues.
(1) T H E
x N
S N T I
(2) T H E
x E
P I A E
(3) T H E
x P
H B N E
(Choose one among the three which has maximum number of clues.)
Here, E x E = _E
As,
T H E
x P E N
S N T I
P I A E
H B N E
S H A A H I
Now, you have to start hit and trial with both the possible cases.
T H 5
x P 5 N
S N T I
P I A 5
H B N 5
S H A A H I
Further, 5 x N = _I [ S N T I ]
[If you multiply 5 to any number, you will only get [0, 5] as their last digit.](5 x even =_0 and 5 x odd=_5)
Therefore, value of I = 0
T H 5
x P 5 N
S N T 0
P 0 A 5
H B N 5
S H A A H 0
(1) T H 5
x N
S N T O
(2) T H 5
x 5
P 0 A 5
(3) T H 5
x P

Take Case (2) as it has less number of variable in comparison to case (1) and Case(2)
(2) T H 5
x 5
P 0 A 5
(2) T H 5
x 5
3 0 A 5
T H 5
