Personality Writing Assignment

I took the sixteen personalities quiz for my Meyer-Briggs personality test. I answered as

honestly as possible and truly thought out each question before answering. I wanted to really dig

deep to get an accurate result. My results were INFJ-T, or “the advocate”. I learned that my

personality archetype is creative, imaginative, and sensitive. INFJ’s main goal is to spread

compassion and uplift others. I feel like I align with these characteristics to a T. The Advocate

feels drawn to helping others. Advocates are known to stand up for others. These types of people

want to genuinely improve society and make living conditions fairer. INFJ’s are naturally

introverted. However, they communicate genuinely and aspire to make meaningful connections

to others. I believe these traits reflect my personality and agree.

Some of my strengths as an INFJ are creativity, insightfulness, principled, passionate, and

altruistic. INFJ’s look at a problem and begin to immediately begin to think about a potential

solution. Their creativity allows them to find the best possible solution for the problem. INFJ’s

want to get to the heart of the matter and find what make people tick. They are interested in

discovering people's feelings, needs, and true motives in life. The Advocate can inspire others

with their principled nature and passionate personality. They want to use their strengths for the

good of others. They care about how their actions affect other people. They hope that their

actions benefit everyone around them. As a nurse, I believe I will use my strengths to help my

patients. My creative nature makes me a critical thinker, which could be helpful in times of

crisis, like if my patient is coding. I hope my passionate and persuasiveness could keep a patient

optimistic about their recovery. In school, this allows me to find what concepts I am lacking

knowledge on and need to study.

Weakness of INFJ include perfectionism, prone to burnout, reluctance to open up to

others, sensitivity to criticism, and avoiding the ordinary. I find myself having these traits as

well. My perfectionism tends to leave me burnt out and I am too hard on myself. I have a hard

time taking criticism from others. As a nurse, I believe I could be too hard on myself if I lose a

patient. I could have a hard time forming bonds with my coworkers. With INFJs being sensitive

to criticism, they may misinterpret vicarious reinforcement as vicarious punishment.

Academically, I can get burnt out from school and tend to harp over the work I submit because I

want it to be my best work.

The Advocate does not have a large circle of friends, but rather meaningful connections

with a few individuals. They tend to rely on small talk and day to day interactions with people at

work or school. The find themselves comfortable around those who share the same passions and

beliefs. Once they find someone they feel comfortable around, their guard drops down and they

can share their thoughts and ideas. Advocates hold their friends to the same high standards they

hold themselves too. They want their friends to have the same desire to be better and learn. I

agree with this and align with it. As a nurse, I will probably hold my colleagues to the same

standard I hold myself to. I could see myself having a few friends a really trust but have more

small talk with others. I may not have many friends as I go through school, but the ones I do

connect with will have a tight bond with me.

INFJs need reassurance in the workplace. The have the desire to help others and know

their work creates growth within the company and themselves. The love when they are assigned

projects that allow them to express their strengths. The Advocate prefers to ignore hierarchies at

work. They like to come to work and work. These people do not think they are above or below

anyone at work. They prefer managers who share their ideals and give them reassurance. Strict

rules and routine tasks tend to kill the INFJ’s morale at work. They are well liked and well

respected by their colleagues. They often find themselves picking up the slack of their colleagues

and can suffer from it due to their perfectionism. I believe this perfectly describes me. As a

nurse, again I will most likely double checking my coworkers work and making sure it is up to

my standard. I usually get along with my colleagues and do find myself picking up the work they

don’t finish. I feel in group projects I do the same. I prefer to do solo assignments.

I believe personality tests could be beneficial to companies to understand how their

employees work. I do not think it should be a part of the hiring process but should be completed

after they have been hired and trained. Doing this before hiring could be discriminatory because

someone could be rejected for a job if their personality types state they don’t work well with

others or lack urgency of time. It would be neat to have these reports on file not only for general

understanding of employees, but if there were an issue between two people at work. They could

see how the two people think and figure out how they could work together effectively, conflict

free.

Overall, I enjoyed taking this test. It was interesting to see how personality can be

categorized into sixteen different types. It was neat to see how I think and to know that there are

others who think similarly to me. I often times feel misunderstood and now I know that it is part

of my personality. INFJs are the least common personality type. I often felt different that

everyone else. Now I know that it is true, and I couldn’t be happier to be validated in my

thoughts and feelings.
