Walking Shorts Pattern
We've had so many requests for this over the last few weeks. This walking shorts pattern is the perfect
opportunity for you guys to make the shorts many of you requested after we published a compilation of
shorts for women and children a few weeks ago. In that post, there were many types of shorts and
many were very short. These shorts are not that short and even if you find them too short I will show
you how to make them longer. Which is why we are going to start from fitting the pattern rather than
sewing first.
We will go through the whole procedure --making the patch pockets, sewing darts, sewing a lapped
zipper, attaching a facing with a lapped zipper and finally hemming the shorts. In addition to all this, I
will be showing you how to transform this pattern into lovely palazzo pants.
I'm naming these shorts "on a stroll" because that is what most of you wanted. Just a pair of shorts to
go walking around, hang around the house, do gardening and still look good and age appropriate.
These walking shorts have two pockets, two slant pockets in the front and two unlined patch pockets in
the back.

To print your PDF pattern
Your pattern pieces come at the end of these instructions. For accurate
printing, please make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe
Reader. You can download the latest version here if you need to.
Select File → Print and the print dialogue box opens. Under Page Sizing
and Handling, select ACTUAL SIZE . Check the preview in the right hand
side illustration. Select the page numbers you want to print. You can print
the whole document, or just the pattern pieces.
On the edge of the top left page is a box you can use to test your printing.
This box should measure 2 inches square. If yours is wildly different you
will need to check your printer options to make sure the pages are not
being resized.
Use the grey guides on the overlap of the sheets to match up the pattern
pieces, folding under or cutting off any overlaps, tape together and cut
out your pattern pieces.
Also note that you will need to cut two straps at 4 inches by 22 inches, for
which no pattern piece is supplied – it’s just a rectangle! You can draw
the straps on the reverse of your fabric to cut.
