Kawaii Godzilla Amigurumi Pattern

So kawaii, so kaiju – what’s not to love about this cuddly Godzilla! Paying
homage to the King of Monsters himself, this pattern is simple to crochet and
uses some shaping techniques to give him his classic form! Button eyes finish
the deal with the ultimate dose of cuteness and then this little Godzilla is ready
for some city destroying action.... or maybe just some cuddles!

MATERIALS:

1. Ball of each: grey yarn, light blue/green yarn and dark green yarn. I always
use medium weight yarns but you can use whatever you like best!
2. A crochet hook – I used a 3.50mm hook but you can use whatever size
suits the yarn you picked the best! Remember you want the stitches to be
nice and tight so the stuffing doesn’t poke through!
3. Stuffing – I use Poly-Fil!
4. Yarn needle.
5. Two black buttons for the eyes. Mine are 25mm buttons.
6. A hot glue gun and glue sticks

PATTERN:

Please note that each piece is working in the round as traditional amigurumi
is :D

(18)
Rd 22: SC around (18)

Finish off by leaving a long tail for sewing this to the body later. You can either
simply stuff the tail or for a pose-able tail, I added in 2 pipe cleaners – just
make sure you fold down the ends cause otherwise they will poke out! I also
wrap a little stuffing around the end that’s going in the little end of the tail so
that the pipe cleaners are not visible.

Tummy (Made in Blue/Green Yarn):

Rd 1: CH 7, SC in the 2nd chain from your hook (6 across)

Rd 2: Do 2 more SC in the spot you stopped. This will give the top end of your
chain 3 SC in total and will help form your oval. Finish crocheting the other side
with 6 more SC. The picture below will help:
l l l l l l
1 - XXXXXX - 1
l l l l l l
You now have 14 SC around.
Rd 3: INCR, SC, SC, SC, SC, INCR, INCR, INCR, SC, SC, SC, SC, INCR, INCR (20)
Rd 4: You now have your oval shape and all you do is SC in each of stitches until
you come to the top edges. In these you do 3 SC. So your next round looks as
follows:

*SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, 3 SC IN THIS STITCH* repeat once more (24)

Rd 5: SC around (24)

I finished mine here BUT you can do more rounds if you want a bigger tummy
panel. Simply SC around but on each top end do 3 SC :D If you like you can snip
your ends and pull tight. Hide the loose ends on the same side as this tummy
piece will get glued in place as we make our Godzilla.

Back Spikes (Made of Dark Green Yarn) ** MAKE 6 **

Rd 1: Start with a magic circle in which 6 stitches are made (6)

Rd 2: INCR around (12)
Rd 3: * SC, INCR* repeat pattern 5 more times (18)
Rd 4: * SC in the first 7 stitches, DEC * repeat pattern once more (16)
Rd 5: * SC in the first 6 stitches, DEC * repeat pattern once more (14)

Finish off by leaving a long tail for sewing. I also used my tail piece to make 2
indentations on either side of the middle of the spike. This gives it a little more
character. There’s a photo set below to help with this – and at the end just do 3
little stitches on the bottom round so we can use the tail to sew the spikes on
after!
Smaller Spikes – for head and back (Made of Dark Green Yarn) ** MAKE 7 **

Rd 1: Start with a magic circle in which 6 stitches are made (6)

Rd 2: INCR around (12)
Rd 3: * SC in the first 4 stitches, DEC * repeat pattern once more (10)

Finish off by leaving a long tail for sewing. We don’t make any indentations on
these spikes!

Top Spike – for his head (Made of Dark Green Yarn):

Rd 1: Start with a magic circle in which 6 stitches are made (6)

Rd 2: * SC in the first 2 stitches, INCR * repeat pattern once more (8)

Finish off by leaving a long tail for sewing.

Making Your Godzilla:

1. Let's start with his most important feature – his face! To get his face
looking more like mine, thread your yarn needle with the grey yarn you
used to crochet your Godzilla. Anchor the yarn on the side of his head
where your button eye will be and then pass the needle 3 times between
this spot and the matching spot of the other side of the head. Pull tight (but
not too tight!) to make the eye indents. There are photos below to help:

2. Once this is done, we also want to do the same type of thing to give his
head the more pronounced snout shape that you see above. So using the
same needle the yarn, thread the needle through the 4th round around on
the top and then straight down through the snout. Don’t pull as tight as we
don’t want an indent, just a shaped snout. Anchor off with 3 small stitches
on the underside of his chin and then snip off!
3. Now it's time to do the eyes. Get that hot glue gun plugged in and heating
up and pin your button eyes in place. When they are perfect, glue em down!
4. With the hot glue on, get the tummy panel pinned in place and when it’s
perfect, glue it all down too!
5. Now we can do his legs! Pin the leg to the feet (use the photos to help!)
and sew the feet to the legs. Do this with the yarn tail you left on the feet
(and if you got scissor happy, no worries, just tie a new piece on!). Then,
pin the leg piece to the body. I pinned both of mine in place and then I
threaded the tail from the leg part to sew each in place!
6. Now his tail can go on! I pinned mine on the back, around the 5th round
from the bottom as the base of the tail. Pin it on and make sure your
Godzilla will stand OK! Then stitch in place with your yarn needle and tail
yarn!
7. Next, his little arms go on! Again, using the photos below as a guide, pin on
his arms on either side of his tummy panel. When you love them, stitch
them on with your yarn needle and tail yarn!
8. Now for some fun! It's time to add his spikes! Again, below I have a photo
of his back so you can see the spike pattern. The big spikes go on the tail
in a pattern just like a 5 card in a deck of cards. Then we do one more big
spike in the middle of his back. We flank that big spike with a smaller spike
on either side and then do a 5 pattern of small spikes on his head. And,
finish off with the smallest spike right at the front!
9. And that's it! Cuddle time!!!!
