S1 END OF TERM 1 AGRICULTURE

INSTRUCTIONS: Attempt 2 items from the 3 items.

Item one

In Mpigi district, there are various farmers dealing in farming. Some farmers involve themselves in a
variety of farming projects or enterprises whereas others only deal in the production of only a single
product that is ginger for survival and even earn a living. These farmers have all benefits in their projects
in various ways.

Task

As a senior one student who has studied agriculture, what do you think are the reasons as to why some
farmers specialize and some have a variety of projects in Mpigi district (20 scores)

Item 2

During a field study trip or explore for the senior one class to Kabanyolo agricultural farm, their
agriculture teacher instructed them to move along with both a notebook and a pen. On reaching the
farm, the farm had a variety of farming enterprises such as fish farming, cattle keeping, coffee growing,
banana plantation, rabbit rearing projects, poultry farming. The students were guided by the instructor
at the farm to all the above projects at the site. He introduced himself to them and started elaborating
on how the agriculture projects have been able to survive and benefit to the people there and then the
people outside the farm. The students were able to note down a number of items that were explained
to them by the instructor. During farm operations, farmers ought to do the same thing for the better
running of their farms.

Task

a) Why do you think that the students and the farmers are entitled to note down all those events
that take place at the farm premises (15 scores)?
b) As a student doing agriculture as a subject and a business, what do you think of the various
types of documents kept at the farm (5 scores)

Item 3

In your community, most people have large pieces of land. Each belongs to a family. The families have
many children of working age. Every day these healthy looking children move to the towns and trading
centers. Others leave their homes for urban centers and only return on Christmas or ‘Eid day. Most of
those who leave their homes engage in sports betting, hawking and other forms of gambling.

Task

You have been invited by your parish chief during Christmas or ‘Eid holiday. Prepare a speech you will
present to your community members on how the youth can occupy themselves profitably using available
resources. (20scores) END
