SELF-EVALUATION

1. Is your transcript a true reflection of your ability? Why or why not? Have there
been any unusual circumstances which have affected your educational
experience or personal development?
a. My transcript is an accurate reflection of my ability. I participate in many
advanced classes, while also partaking in many theater electives. Since
going to a performing arts highschool, academics are a first, but the arts
are a second. Normal teenagers don’t have that second thing to worry or
prepare for. I think that hinders my ability to learn to a full extent, but over
the four years I have been here, I have learned how to balance the arts
and my academics.

2. How would your teachers describe you?

a. Dedicated - Each assignment I get, academic or artistic, I will do the work,
and not give up.
b. Risk Taker - This trait is more present in my acting. I have learned how to
get out of my comfort zone and try new things. “Strong and Wrong” is my
motto.
c. Engaging - During lectures I am always present.
d. Charismatic - I grow by learning from others, while taking risks in myself. I
am teaching a freshman class and just seeing how my knowledge and
understanding of acting and theater, and how they pick that up.

3. If colleges could know five things about you, what would they be?
a. I am a mime, and use my body to tell stories more than my words.
b. I maintain my core values while also respecting others.
c. I love country music and folk music.
d. My favorite food is Tex-Mex.
e. I have hope that the Cowboys are going to the Super-Bowl.

4. What extracurricular activity is most important to you? How have you contributed
to these activities? Have you shown any leadership qualities in these activities?
Please be specific and detailed.
a. FCA - lead meetings and group discussions every week. Speak on topics
and give my opinion and beliefs on the Christian Faith. Create a lesson
plan for the upcoming meeting. Maintain the social media account. I have
shown confidence in my beliefs as well as empathy for people that might
not know and are just starting to get into the Christian faith. I provide as a
mentor for younger kids, helping and pushing them along in their faith.
b. Theater - During school and classes, I am always willing to lead warmups,
provide as an example for others, and give feedback when asked. After
school, I lead warmups for outside of school productions, and check in
with my castmates to see how they are doing. I am a teacher assistant in
a freshman mime and movement class and that has given me many
opportunities to lead and learn how to teach younger kids, creating a safe
environment to learn in. In theater, there are a lot of opportunities for
seniors to lead. I take as many of those opportunities as I can get.
c. Science National Honors Society -
d. Class Council
5. What goals do you have for the future? What do you expect college to do for
you? How will you contribute to your future college?
a. Acting - I want to pursue acting in college, and learn from professionals in
the college setting. I plan on finding teaching opportunities to teach others,
while also learning from professors.
b. Global Health - I have a passion for medicine and biology, so I plan on
studying global health, so that I can pursue health all over the world. I plan
on using this skill to collaborate with others to impact the medical field on
a global scale.
6. Write one paragraph about yourself that you can imagine being in an
accurate and complimentary letter about you!
Your campus and university will benefit from Lauren Thompson. Lauren has
consistently demonstrated a desire to learn and to compete. She is open to
challenges and new ideas and embraces opportunity with gusto - even when she
is skeptical about achieving a positive outcome and asked to step outside of her
comfort zone. I also admire Lauren’s devotion to her friends and family. She is
always checking in on others, and puts others before herself. She yearns to lead
others and be a role model for younger kids. Lauren has an unusual level of
empathy, kindness and consideration for others not often witnessed in someone
of her age. I have concluded her relationship with her friends and family has
fostered and developed these favorable qualities.
PARENT EVALUATION (this is optional but can be quite helpful)

1. What are some of your child’s most outstanding accomplishments during the past
3-4 years? (1)
a. In summer of 2023, Lauren attended a two week immersion experience in
Spain, where she lived with a host family, met students from across the
country and attended an intensive language program. She took great
delight in experiencing a new culture, food, environment and showed
adaptability and stamina. (2) For the past 10 years, Lauren has attended
a summer camp called Sky Ranch. When she started she knew no one,
but overtime she has developed strong relationships with campers.
Lauren shares some foundational beliefs with a majority of the campers.
Remarkably, though, she does not share many, often controversial
beliefs, with them but nonetheless finds common ground and an ability to
communicate different perspectives in a respectful, affirming way. (3)
Lauren tried out for her home high school volleyball team the summer
before her freshman year of high school. She knew none of the coaches.
She knew none of the other players. She was nonetheless committed to
finding a way to play a sport she loved and still attend a performing arts
high school. As a freshman, Lauren was invited to join the Junior Varsity
team. As a sophomore and junior, Lauren was invited to join the Varsity
team. In order to maximize team practice time, Lauren was required to
work out with the team at 7:00AM, three days a week; leave practice at
8:30AM; and rush to Booker T. to make her first period class. After school,
Lauren played in all of the non-district and district games. The team made
district playoffs when Lauren was a junior and senior - the first time this
had been accomplished in over a decade. After her junior year, Lauren
made the difficult decision to give up volleyball so she could devote her
senior year to Booker T. performances and shows. I watched her
deliberate over this decision and was proud of how she arrived at her
decision and communicated it to her volleyball coach and the team.
Lauren loves playing volleyball and misses her teammates but has fully
embraced her senior year as a performer and lighting designer at Booker
T.

2. How would you describe your child? Use 2-3 adjectives and examples to support
this description. What makes him/her unique? How do you think others perceive
him/her?
a. Empathetic. Mindful of others feelings. I have observed Lauren on
countless occasions paying attention to the feelings of those around her
and in a remarkably mature fashion, interacting with others who are sad or
grieving. Competitive. Lauren very much likes to win. She will push
herself to devote the time and energy to do her best to win.
3. Have there been any unusual circumstances which have affected your child’s
educational experience or personal development?
a. The summer after her sophomore year of high school, we sold her
childhood home so we could make arrangements to move her
grandmother in with us at another location that better suited us all. This
was tough and Lauren grieved the loss of the only home she had ever
known. It was unsettling for her and the arrangement was difficult,
particularly at first.
