COMPLETING THE BLOCKS

1. Refer to Sew & Flip Corners and use V and O squares, placing O squares
on opposite corners. Add O squares to the remaining corners to make one
square-in-a-square unit (Figure 1).

Figure 1

2. Stitch together an S rectangle and a C rectangle along long edge (Figure

2). Make four C-S units.
Figure 2

3. Lay out an A square, Q rectangle and R rectangle as shown (Figure 3).

Sew A and Q together; add the R rectangle. Make four A-Q-R units.

Figure 3

4. Refer to Sew & Flip Flying Geese and use step 2 units and L squares to
make four flying geese units (Figure 4).

Figure 4

Here’s a Tip
In order to achieve the design as shown, make sure the points of the star are stitched to the C-
S units correctly! The small strip needs to end up on the outside of the finished block.

5. Lay out the square-in-a-square unit, the flying geese units and the step 3
units into three rows (Figure 5). Join units together in rows; join the rows to
make the star center unit.
