POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ENGINEERING
Option: Structural Engineering
COURSE TITLE : STRUCTURAL DYNAMICS
COURSE CODE : SE 654
COURSE DESCRIPTION : The course deals with the principles of earthquake
engineering as applied to structural engineering. It gives emphasis on structural dynamics for
deeper understanding of the mechanics of structure’s vibration specially its seismic response.
Dynamic response of single and multidegree of freedom systems; modal analysis of lumped and
continuous mass system. Topics include convolution and frequency domain solutions,
introduction to analytical dynamics, damping models, modal analysis of classically damped
systems and state-space solution. Also included are the structural codes and standards, and
seismic analysis and design practices
