expression, preserves cultural heritage,
(pause for a few moments to allow students inspires creativity, and fosters empathy by
to gather their thoughts.) connecting people to diverse perspectives and
experiences.
Now, who would like to share their
thoughts? Feel free to raise your hand.

for many reasons.

identity, serving as a mirror to historical
events, social issues, and everyday life.

contributions! Your insights are valuable as
we move forward in exploring our lesson
today.

So, today class we will be discussing artworks

from the Renaissance and Baroque Period.

D. Lesson Proper

The Renaissance was a period of great change

and rebirth in Europe, particularly in Italy,
that spanned from the 1400s to the 1600s. It
was a time of significant advancements in art,
literature, science, and philosophy.

Let's break down some common

misconceptions about the Renaissance:

- The Renaissance did not flourish in

Bangladesh. It was centered in Italy,
specifically in cities like Florence.
- The Renaissance was not just about art.
While art flourished during this time, it was
also a period of scientific discovery, political
upheaval, and economic growth.
- The Renaissance did not solely focus on
religion. While religion remained important,
the focus shifted towards humanism,
individualism, and secular themes. This meant
that people began to look at the world through
a more human-centered lens, emphasizing
reason and individual achievement.
- The Renaissance was a time of economic
progress. This economic growth fueled the
artistic and cultural boom that characterized
the period. The Baroque period, which
followed the Renaissance, was another
significant artistic movement. It's known for
its dramatic, emotional, and highly
ornamented style. Here's what makes the
Baroque period unique:
- The word "Baroque" comes from the
Portuguese word "Barocco," meaning
"irregularly shaped pearl or stone." This aptly
describes the period's complex and often
extravagant style. - Baroque art is
characterized by exaggerated motion, drama,
tension, and grandeur. Artists used these
techniques to create a sense of awe and
emotional engagement in viewers.
- The Baroque period emphasized
ornamentation and exaggerated motion. This
created a sense of drama and contrast, leading

to a powerful effect in art and architecture.
