• Skill India is an initiative launched by the Government of India in 2015, aimed at empowering the
youth of the country by providing them with skills training. The goal is to enhance employability and
create a workforce capable of meeting the demands of various industries.

• The chief objective of skill India mission is to provide market – relevant skills training to more than 40
crore young people in the country by the year 2023.

• The program involves implementing curriculum based skill training courses , wherein trainees would
gain certifications and endorsement from industry recognized learning centers.
Key objectives of Skill India include:
1. Training and Certification: Providing skill training in various sectors, from traditional
industries like manufacturing to newer ones like digital technologies and service sectors.
2. Enhancing Employability: Bridging the gap between education and employment, helping
individuals develop skills that match the needs of employers.
3. Promoting Entrepreneurship: Encouraging self-employment through skill training, making
people capable of starting their own businesses.
4. Empowering Women and Marginalized Groups: Ensuring that skill development
opportunities are inclusive and accessible to all, including women, people from rural areas, and
disadvantaged communities.
Skill India encompasses various
programs, such as:-
❖Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY): The flagship skill development
program that provides financial incentives to training providers and trainees.
❖ National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC): An organization under the Ministry
of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship that supports skill development across India.
❖ Skill Development in Various Sectors: Training in industries such as agriculture, IT,
healthcare, construction, and retail .

aim is to empower individuals by providing them with the necessary skills and mindset to excel in the workforce and
create their own businesses. This focus has been particularly important for boosting employment, reducing poverty, and
fostering innovation .
Here are the primary components of Skill Development and
Entrepreneurship in India:
1. Skill Development : Skill development involves imparting knowledge and training to individuals in
various fields, enhancing their ability to perform specific tasks or jobs. The goal is to equip them with the right
skills for various industries, ensuring they can be more competitive and employable.
Key Programs OF SKILL DEVELOPMENT :-
o Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) : This is the flagship scheme of the Government of
India under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). It offers skill development
training to youth across various sectors and incentivizes both trainers and trainees.
o National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) : NSDC plays a crucial role in promoting skill
development in India by supporting training providers and fostering the creation of skills in different industries.
o Skill India Mission : This broader initiative seeks to develop a large, skilled workforce in India, covering
over 500 districts and involving various private and public partnerships.
o Sector-Specific Skill Development : Various sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, IT, retail, and
construction have dedicated skill development programs. This ensures that youth are trained according to the
demands of specific industries, helping to bridge the skills gap.
2. Entrepreneurship Development :Entrepreneurship development focuses on fostering a culture of
innovation and business creation. It aims to enable individuals, especially the youth, to take on the challenge of
becoming job creators rather than job seekers.
Key Programs OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP :-
o Startup India : Launched in 2016, this initiative encourages entrepreneurship by providing tax exemptions,
easier regulatory norms, and various financial support to startups. It aims to create a conducive environment for
new businesses, particularly those based on innovative ideas.
o Stand Up India Scheme : This is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among women, Scheduled Castes
(SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST) by providing financial assistance for setting up greenfield enterprises in the
manufacturing, services, or trading sectors.
o Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) : This initiative promotes innovation and entrepreneurship through
programs like the Atal Tinkering Labs and Atal Incubation Centers, which support students and aspiring
entrepreneurs with the tools and mentorship to build innovative solutions and startups.
o Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) : Government schemes like Credit Guarantee Fund
Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) and the MSME Development Act aim to help entrepreneurs
set up businesses, access loans, and scale operations.

Benefits of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship :

reducing the unemployment rate.

GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES AND POLICIES
