Lifelong learning is a vital part of personal development for both men and women.
However, it is especially important for women because of the numerous benefits it can
provide in their lives.
Firstly, lifelong learning enables women to make better career choices. By continuously
expanding their knowledge and skills, women can stay competitive in the ever-changing job
market. Acquiring new qualifications and staying updated with new knowledge can open
doors to a wider range of career opportunities. Moreover, lifelong learning enhances women's
confidence and self-esteem. When women engage in continuous learning, they gain a sense of
accomplishment and a belief in their abilities. This enables women to take on new challenges
and overcome obstacles with determination. Additionally, lifelong learning fosters personal
growth and fulfillment. It provides women with the opportunity to explore new subjects,
hobbies, and interests. Whether it’s learning a new language, acquiring artistic skills, or
delving into a new field of study, lifelong learning broadens horizons and enriches lives.
Furthermore, lifelong learning equips women with the tools to adapt and thrive in a rapidly

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer
to each of the questions from 34 to 40.
If an employee wants to succeed, they must stay up to date on the latest trends and
developments in their respective fields, including changes to regulations, accepted best
practices, and new techniques. But that won’t be enough. With rapid advances in technology,
especially AI, it is more important than ever for employees to learn new things if they want to
stay relevant and competitive, able to adapt to new technologies. Furthermore, the merit of
continuously seeking knowledge and skills cannot be overstated, as it significantly contributes
to an employee's ability to thrive in a rapidly changing work environment.
The world of work is changing at an unprecedented pace, and skills that were once in high
demand are becoming obsolete. Some business leaders believe that because of AI around half
the skills that today's workers use won’t be relevant in as little as two years. And that includes
many of the cherished skills of professionals such as lawyers, architects and accountants. This
is where lifelong learning comes in. People must be prepared to learn new skills.
Some skills may be technical - a new programming language perhaps (the learner must
accept that in a few years, they will need to learn yet another one), or a new digital tool (they
must accept that soon that tool will no longer be needed). But for many, the key skills to learn
are the soft skills of communication, teamwork, problem-solving and leadership. These are
skills that are unlikely to be made obsolete by technology. And they are skills that are

increasingly expected by employers, alongside technical competencies. (Sadly they are skills
that are little taught in schools and universities.) Lifelong learning can keep you in a job. But
it has other benefits too. It helps employees become more flexible and resilient, able to
respond to new situations and challenges quickly. By developing a continuous learning
attitude, employees can become more flexible, better able to question assumptions, better
equipped to handle change.
Lifelong learning also helps you become more innovative and creative. By exposing
themselves to new ideas and perspectives, employees can develop new ways of seeing the
world. This leads to the development of new products and processes that can help
organisations stay ahead of the competition.
Two decades ago, Sheppard and Rix forecasted the changing nature of the workplace and
suggested that keeping older persons in the workforce would make sound economic and social
policy sense. The trend toward longer periods of employment is beginning to become evident.
Forced retirements and early retirement incentives have contributed to the decline of expertise
in the workplace. Inflation, increasing health care costs, and inadequate pensions are
propelling older adults to remain in or re-enter the workforce past the traditional retirement
age. Retirement as permanent separation from the workplace is being replaced with the idea
of bridge employment. Bridging is a form of partial retirement in which an older worker
alternates periods of disengagement from the workplace with periods of temporary, part-time,
occasional, or self-employed work. The key aspect of bridging is that it is work in a job
different to one’s career job. In the US, among workers age 60, more than 50 percent retire
from a career job but only one in nine actually disengages from the workplace. Bridging
allows older workers to "practice" retirement, to fill labour market shortages, or to try a
variety of occupational positions after an initial period of retirement.
