EXCITING SPORTS IN THE WORLD. IT’S A FAST-PACED
GAME THAT REQUIRES SKILL, STRATEGY, TEAMWORK,

Basketball is invented
by Dr. James
Naismith in 1891
Springfield,
Massachusetts, USA.
He creates the game
to keep his students
active indoors during
winter.
The first official game
of basketball is
1892 played with nine
players on each team
and a soccer ball.
The first recorded
college basketball
game takes place
between the 1896
University of Chicago
and the University of
Iowa.
The Basketball
Association of
America (BAA) is
founded, which later
merges with the
National Basketball
1946 League (NBL) to form
the NBA.
Earl Lloyd becomes 1950
the first African
American player in
the NBA.
1992 The “Dream Team”
(USA) competes in
the Barcelona
Olympics, featuring
