Methodology of Concrete work for Column and Retaining wall
I. Equipment:
Transit mixers
Concrete vibrators and needle- 60mm/40mm/25mm diameter as per requirement
Plumb bob
Tray
Shovel and pan
Concrete Pump
II. Procedure:
To provide true line & position of columns/shear wall we shall provide starter/kicker
for each columns, column position shall be marked on raft/slab top for providing
starter/kicker.
1. Starters shall be made of 50 mm thick. Concreting of starter will proceed after
checking of layout with necessary clearance from client.
2. Column and shear wall shutters/boxes will be made of12mm thick film coated
plywood with backing wooden battens at the edges and centre. The column
formwork will be of 3.45 m height or up to the beam bottom, longer side
shutter will be of full height where s shorter side the formwork will be upto1.
[Link] concrete the remaining height will be fixed (Refer sketch-1) and
the retaining wall formwork will be 2.40mtr height (Refer sketch-3).
3. Vertical reinforcement bars and Stirrups shall be provided as per Drawings &
BBS Approved by client and suitably tied with binding wire. The
reinforcement bars shall be held in position rigidly from sway by suitable
scaffolding arrangement.
4. Proper cover as mentioned in the RCC drawing to the reinforcement shall be
ensured by providing adequate numbers of concrete cover blocks and clear
cover of 40mm shall be maintained at all sides from top to bottom of the
formwork for column.
5. Column and shear wall shutters shall be erected true to line and plumb and
adequate supports shall be provided to keep the same in position during &
after concreting.
6. Proper staged platform will be provided for concreting.
7. Adequate numbers of manpower in terms of skilled and unskilled shall be
made available for poring the concrete.
8. Concrete pour card as per approved format shall be made and maintained for
each pour duly signed by client. Grade of column concrete shall be M-45 mix
and grade of shear wall will be M-30 mix as specified in the drawing produced
at batching plant and transported to the site in transit mixers. The column
concrete shall directly pour through small chutes from side. Slump
recommended for RMC mix is 125mm to 150mm and shear wall shall be
poured in two layers of 1.20 mtr.
9. The falling height of the shear wall concrete shall be restricted up to 1.50m
height and for column concrete will be up to 1.75mtr.
[Link] shall be poured in two lifts with first lift of 1.80m height (including
50mm kicker).
11. After completion of 1st lift concrete, remaining second lift formwork of 1.65m
height at two sides or up to the beam bottom and concrete shall be thoroughly
compacted and fully worked around embedded fixtures. Compaction shall be
done by mechanical vibrator of appropriate type till dense concrete is obtained
shall be vibrated properly with suitable needle at edges and centre of the
column. Supervision of concrete placing and compaction of concrete shall be
effectively monitored as per IS2505. (Refer sketch-2)
[Link] of formwork shall be checked after completion of pouring.
13. Proper lighting arrangements shall be made for night works.
14. Any loose deposited concrete afterwards shall be removed & disposed off and
proper housekeeping will be maintained after the concrete completion.
[Link]-shuttering shall be done after 24 hours after casting.
[Link] cloth shall be wrapped around the column for keeping the element wet
for minimum of 10 days in case of OPC cement used for concrete.
