Situation 1: A catapult is placed 100 feet from the castle wall, which is 35 feet high. The soldier
wants the burning bale of hay to clear the top of the wall and land 50 feet inside a castle wall.
a) If the initial velocity of the bale is 70 feet per second, then at what angle should the bale
of hay be launched so that it travels 150 feet and pass over the castle wall.
b) What is the final velocity of the bale right before it touches the ground?
c) What is the vertical clearance between the hay and the wall?
Situation 2: Anthony is headed due East having a velocity of 600 meters per hour for a quarter
day. Then turns slightly to the south maintaining his phase for 3 hours. Determine:
a) Displacement
b) Distance travelled
c) Average velocity HINT: USE COSINE LAW
Situation 3. The velocity of a particle is defined by the v-t graph as shown:
a) Determine the displacement covered from t=1 to t=24
b) Determine the velocity when t=20
c) Determine the acceleration when t=5 VELOCITY IS CONSTANT; a=0
Situation 4. It is observed that the skier leaves the ramp A at a 25 deg angle with the horizontal.
If he strikes the ground at B, determine his initial speed, final speed, and the total time of flight.
Situation 5. Emmanuel’s car can accelerate up to 20m/s2 and has a top speed of 300mph. It starts
from rest and reaches 85m/s in 5s. He kept travelling in this phase for another 30s before hitting
the brakes causing it to decelerate for trice the value of gravity (use g=32 ft/s2) until it completely
stops. After stopping for 20s, he continues his journey using 78% of the engine’s capacity to
accelerate until he reached 100m/s. He stayed in this speed for 2mins. Draw the s-t, v-t and a-t
diagram. CONSIDER THE CONSTANTS, +C1, +C2, +C3 THEN SUBSTITUE THE
VALUE OF T=0 AND S,V,A TO SOLVE FOR THE CONSTANTS. (REVIEW INTEGRAL
CALCULUS)
Situation 6. The jerk of a particle is given by jerk = 1740t^2 – 256. If t = 0, s = -17, v = 9 and a =
24, determine the particle’s position, velocity and acceleration equation and tabulate its s-t, v-t,
a-t form t=0 to t=3 using 0.5 unit of increment.
