RRB ALP Basic Science & Engineering Drawing Notes
## 1. Exam Dates & Importance of Subject
- 1st December - General exam date.
- 15th December - ITI Trade exam.
- 22nd December - PCM Trade exam.
- Basic Science & Engineering Drawing is a key subject for ALP
Technician selection.
- Students should make proper notes and revise regularly.
## 2. Study Plan for ALP Exam
- Focus on Part A & Part B with 10 and 30 practice sets daily.
- Prioritize understanding fundamental mechanical and engineering
concepts.
## 3. Mechanical Concepts & Formulas
### Velocity Ratio
Velocity Ratio = (Effort Distance) / (Load Distance)
- In simple machines, velocity ratio helps determine efficiency.
- Higher velocity ratio means less effort needed to lift a load.
### Mechanical Advantage
Mechanical Advantage = (Load) / (Effort)
- Determines how much a machine multiplies the input force.
### Efficiency
Efficiency = (Output Energy / Input Energy) * 100%
- Efficiency of reversible machines is always above 50%.
- Reversible machine: Load moves up when effort is applied and falls
when effort is removed.
- Irreversible machine: Has high friction, does not return to original
position easily.
## 4. Types of Levers
### First-Class Lever
- Fulcrum is in the middle, effort on one side, load on the other.
- Example: Scissors, Seesaw.
### Second-Class Lever
- Load is in the middle, effort on one side, fulcrum on the other.
- Example: Nutcracker, Wheelbarrow.
### Third-Class Lever
- Effort is in the middle, load on one side, fulcrum on the other.
- Example: Tweezers, Human arm.
## 5. Temperature & Heat Concepts
### Temperature Conversion Formulas
Fahrenheit ( degreesF) = (9/5 x Celsius ( degreesC)) + 32
Celsius ( degreesC) = (5/9) x (Fahrenheit - 32)
Kelvin (K) = Celsius + 273.15
### Key Temperatures to Remember
- Water Freezing Point: 0 degreesC / 32 degreesF
- Water Boiling Point: 100 degreesC / 212 degreesF
- Water's Maximum Density Temperature: 4 degreesC
- Human Body Temperature: 37 degreesC / 98.6 degreesF
## 6. Specific Heat Capacity of Water
- In kcal/kg·K: 1 kcal/kg·K
- In SI units (Joules): 4.2 kJ/kg·K
- Water has high specific heat capacity, meaning it retains heat well.
## 7. Additional Exam Tips
- Revise concepts daily.
- Focus on problem-solving and formula applications.
- Practice previous year question papers.
