Ambedkar - Notes

Ambedkar believed that true Indian nationalism could only be achieved through the annihilation of the caste system and the establishment of a stable social order. He advocated for a political framework that promotes plurality, peaceful dispute resolution, and the recognition of autonomous political representation for oppressed communities. Additionally, he supported the formation of states based on linguistic lines to enhance democracy and social homogeneity.

For Ambedkar, Indian nationalism was demonstrated by elites who would

perpetuate case system in India. Formation of modern and progressive

state is only going to be through annihilation of caste.

His views on nationalism stemmed from the need to restructure the

prevailing social economic order.

WHAT MAKES A NATION:

Ambedkar says that nationalism is social feeling that is embedded in this

sentiment of fellowship, that's super serial cast and class distribution.

For nationality, there was a need for spiritual, a tie of kinship.

CREATING AMBEDKAR NATION:

An independent India needs to establish a stable social order, which will

through codification of law, redistribution of power and by peaceful
settlement of dispute.

His views were found in Buddhism.

Which was not of an enlightened leader, but for codifying sets of laws and
practices to amicably settle differences.

This would lead to longevity and legitimacy of the government.

Would also prescribe the conditions for the usage of violence.

Would lead to establishment of a relationship of ruled and ruler.

Establishment of such terms and conditions is sacrosanct for Ambedkar .

Working of political also needs to enable to plurality of views. Non-violent

political views is about working together, understanding the differences
and also requires to coming to a decision that requires compromises to all
parties and nurturing participation of all institutions and traditions.

OPPOSITION TO NATIONAL MOVEMENT

Ambedkar was not opposed to Indian national movement, but was against
the national movement led by congress which did not see towards the
emancipation of SC, as an action building exercise.

People of congress had very little to do with the elimation in the misery of
the people , who were in the oppressed sections of the society. Freedom
from britishers never meant end of servitude and misery faced by these
oppressed class.

It was the people like Ambedkar who were representing the oppressed and
backward section of the society, and were fighting to regain the backward
people of India, who were termed as inalienable to humanity.
Ambedkar and Dalit would have joined with them, had they given them
the guarantee of recognition of AUTONOMOUS POLITICAL PARTY, which is
basically talking about separate electorate.

LINGUISTIC FEDERATION AS NECESSARY CONDITION OF DEMOCARCY

Ambedkar’s support for creating states on the basis of linguistic lines,

came from the belief that social homogeneity would lead to democracy
working better.

One state, one language- that each state is on the linguistic limit and to
avoid pitiful of forming further nationalism. Regional language cannot be
official language, which has to Hindi. Admn unit should be linguistic, but
administrative language is same overall.
