A cuisine is a style of cooking known for its distinctive
ingredients, techniques and dishes which is usually associated
with a specific culture or geographical region.

Task 1:
My recipe journal
To explore and appreciate different cuisines from around
the world and learn about the cultural significance of food.
Steps to make the recipe journal:
1. Choose a national/international cuisine that interests
you. It could be a cuisine you're familiar with or one the
that you want to learn more about.
2. Research about its-
history
popular dishes
key ingredients
unique cooking techniques
traditions associated with it.
3. Select five recipes from the chosen cuisine that you
would like to include in your recipe journal. These
recipes should represent a variety of dishes, such as
appetizers, main courses, desserts, etc.
4. Design a recipe journal with unique title and front
page. For each recipe, write a detailed description that
includes:
The name of the dish
A brief introduction to the dish and its cultural
significance (if any)
A list of ingredients with measurements
Step-by-step instructions on how to prepare the
dish
Any additional notes or tips for making the dish
Create a visually appealing journal or booklet to
showcase your recipes. You can include
illustrations, photographs or other visuals to
enhance your journal.
Task 2: Nutrition in a
plate
Nutrition is about the food and drinks you consume that give
your body the energy and nutrients it needs to stay healthy
and strong. It includes things like carbohydrates, proteins,
fats, vitamins and minerals that have different jobs in
keeping your body working well. Eating a variety of healthy
foods from different food groups is important to make sure
you get all the nutrients your body needs.
Steps to make your nutrition chart:
1. Select one recipe from your recipe journal.
2. Identify all the ingredients used in the recipe, including
spices and condiments.
3. Use reliable sources such as food labels, nutritional
databases, or online tools to find the nutritional
information for each ingredient. Record the following for
each ingredient:
Calories
Total fat
Cholesterol
Sodium
Total carbohydrates, dietary fiber, sugars
Protein
4. Make a pie chart/bar graph representing the nutritional
value of the recipe.
Task 3 : Recipe cost
analysis
Instructions:
1. Create a list of all the ingredients needed for your
favourite recipe, including quantities.
2. Find the prices of these ingredients from local
grocery stores or online sources.
3. Calculate the total cost of each ingredient needed
for the recipe.
4. Sum up the total cost of all ingredients to find the
overall cost of making the recipe.
5. Now, imagine you are planning to cook this dish for
a specific number of people (e.g., 4, 6, 8). Adjust the
quantities of ingredients accordingly.
6. Recalculate the total cost of the adjusted recipe for
the number of people you chose.
7. Create a budget plan for preparing this dish,
considering factors like affordability, quality of
ingredients, and serving size.
8. Reflect on the process and discuss how budgeting
can help in making informed decisions about food
choices.

Steps to Create the Budget Table:
1. List Ingredients: Write down all the ingredients
needed for the recipe.
2. Specify Quantity: Note the quantity required for
each ingredient.
3. Determine Cost per Unit: Find out the cost per unit
(e.g., per cup, per egg, per teaspoon) of each
ingredient and how much of it is needed for one
serving.
4. Sum Up Total Cost: Add up the total costs per unit of
all ingredients to get the overall cost of making the
recipe for one serving.
5. Now multiply the cost with the number of people to
calculate your budget.
6. After making the budget answer the following
questions-
Which ingredient is the most expensive?
Which ingredient is the least expensive?
Did you compared the prices of same ingredient
from different stores?
What surprised you the most about creating a recipe
budget?

Task 4 : Mealtime
Traditions
Instructions-
1. Research and identify traditional mealtime practices
and customs specific to the culture of the cuisine you
have chosen. Focus on aspects such as:
Typical meal times (breakfast, lunch, dinner).
Common foods and ingredients used in
traditional dishes.
Special occasions or events associated with
meals (e.g., festivals, holidays, family gatherings).
Table manners and etiquette.
2. Create a visual or written presentation(a poster or a
collage) showcasing the mealtime traditions of the
chosen culture. Include images, videos, or
illustrations to enhance your presentation.
3. In modern times when gadgets are all around us to
distract us from family time, think and enlist five
ways of encouraging gadget free meal time. Also
share your experience of the same.
Task 5: Nature-Inspired
Food Art:
Use natural materials like leaves, flowers, and fruits to
create food art.
Arrange these elements on a plate to create beautiful
patterns or designs, and take photos of your creations and
frame the picture.
