KEYBOARD
A computer keyboard is an input device that allows a person to enter letters, numbers, and other
symbols (these are called characters in a keyboard) into a computer. It is one of the most used input
devices for computers. Using a keyboard to enter lots of data is called typing.
MOUSE
A computer mouse is an input device that is used with a computer. Moving a mouse along a
flat surface can move the cursor to different items on the screen. Items can be moved or selected
by pressing the mouse buttons (called clicking).[1] Today's mice have two buttons, the left
button and right button, with a scroll wheel in between the two. Today, many computer mice
use wireless technology and have no wire.
SCANNER
A scanner is a device that allows you to digitize physical documents, images, or even
objects, and convert them into a digital format that can be viewed, edited, and stored on a
computer. It's like a digital photocopier that captures the content of a document or image
and saves it as a file.
Types of Scanners
1. Flatbed Scanner
The most popular type of optical scanner is a flatbed scanner, which scans documents on a
flat surface. These scanners do not require the document to be moved and are capable of
capturing all of the document's elements.
2. Sheetfed Scanners
A scanner that allows the only paper to be scanned, known as sheetfed scanners. These
scanners are a little smaller than regular flatbed scanners, and they feature a lesser image
resolution.
3. Handheld Scanner
It is positioned above the thing to be scanned. It scans physical documents into their digital
forms, which makes it capable of storing, modifying, forward, and emailing digitally.
4. Drum Scanner
A scanner that uses a photomultiplier tube to capture the highest resolution from an image is
known as a photomultiplier tube scanner. The photomultiplier tubes used by drum scanners
are vacuum tubes that are excessively sensitive to light. A glass tube is available in the
drum scanner, and the image is mounted on that.
5. Photo Scanner
A type of optical scanner that is mainly used to scan photographs. Photo scanners provide
high resolution and color depth. They are smaller as compared to general-purpose
scanners.
6. Film Scanner
A film scanner is a device that scans photographic film and transfers it to a computer. It
scans without the need of any printmaking intermediates. As compared to a flatbed scanner,
it offers different benefits to scan in a print of any size.
7. Portable Scanner
Portable scanners are designed in a way that can be easily carried around as they are small
in size. They are effective for text document scanning. They have limitations in terms of
resolution. They are also available with a wireless facility. The below picture is an example
of a cabled portable scanner.
JOYSTICK
A joystick is a hand-held input device used to control the movement or actions of a digital object
on a computer screen. It typically consists of a handle or a lever that can be tilted or pushed in
different directions to provide input to a computer or a gaming console.
LIGHT PENS
A light pen is a type of pointing input device that detects light and is frequently used to select or
alter text or data on a screen. These devices, when used with a CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor,
were an early method of highlighting and modifying data on the screen.
BARCODE READER
A barcode reader is an optical hardware input device that is used to read the information from the
barcode pasted on the product and decode the information in a human-readable format. It is also
used to upload the details of the product in the database. A barcode reader is connected to the
computer with the help of wire Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection. It consists of a Scanner and an
internal or external decoder.
WEBCAMERA
A webcam is a small digital video camera that connects to a computer. It is also known as a web
camera that can capture pictures or motion video. A webcam captures digital pictures as it is an
input device.
Output Devices
MONITOR
A computer monitor is an electronic device that shows pictures for computers. Monitors often look
similar to televisions. The main difference between a monitor and a television is that a monitor
does not have a television tuner to change channels. Monitors often have higher display resolution
than televisions. A high display resolution makes it easier to see smaller letters and fine graphics.
PRINTER
A printer is a hardware output device that is used to generate hard copy and print any document.
A document can be of any type such as a text file, image, or the combination of both. It accepts
input command by users on a computer or on other devices to print the documents. For example,
if you have to submit a project report at your college, you need to create a soft copy of your report
and print it with the help of the printer.
Printers are one of the common computer peripheral devices that can be classified into two
categories that are 2D and 3D printers. The 2D printers are used to print text and graphics on a
paper, and 3D printers are used to create three dimensional physical objects.
PROJECTOR
A projector is an output device that is capable of connecting to a computer, which may be another
option for a monitor or television in terms of displaying pictures to a large number of people. It
takes images generated by a Blu-ray player or a computer and projects them onto a large surface
like a wall or white screen. Projectors come in many shapes and sizes and are used in conditions
like a classroom, home cinemas, office training or presentation sessions, etc. The projector looks
like the below picture.
SPEAKERS
Speakers are used to connect to a computer to generate sound, which are one of the most
common output devices. The devices, like an audio receiver or computer, give audio input to
speakers, which may be in the form of analog or digital.
HEADPHONES
Headphones are a type of hardware output device that can be connected to a computer’s line-out
or speaker’s port, as well as wirelessly using Bluetooth. They are also referred to as earbuds. You
can watch a movie or listen to audio without bothering anyone nearby by using headphones.
