FS 101: Participation and Teaching Assistantship

LESSON 1: Selecting, Preparing, and Utilizing Instructional materials and Online Resources

Activity

thoughts of what the pictures portrayed? Fill the table below.

learn. It is very obvious in the student’s faces
that they are not interested to listen on what the
teacher is talking about.

Analysis

1. What is the disparity of the two pictures?

There is not much of disparity between the two. Both shows how ineffective the teachers
are in sharing the content and knowledge to the students. Both are showing poor teaching
strategies which results to students being passive and uninterested about the class
discussion. However, in the first picture, there is this one student who was bombarded
with the information given by the teacher. He grasps all the information while the other
students are being passive. While on the second picture, all students are completely
uninterested with what the teacher is discussing.

2. Can you tell which picture depicts an effective way of teaching? Why?
For me, I can say that the first picture somehow depicts a bit of effective way of teaching.
Why? Because despite of the teaching strategy performed by the teaching, there is still
one student who listens and grasps the information she gave though it shows in the
student’s reaction how hard it is for him. Unlike to the second picture, all the students
completely show no interest during the class.
3. Do you have any experience similar with the picture? How did you overcome it?
Yes, I do have. During my senior high school, we are required to have a work immersion
in an elementary school. I was given a task by the teacher to take charge of the class
while she is in a meeting, and she told me to discuss about a certain topic about numbers.
However, during my discussion, students are showing signs of boredom. They ran around
the room and went outside. What I did is asked them what do they like to do, and it is to
play a game. Therefore, I incorporated the game to the discussion in order to impart the
content knowledge while doing the game. It is not helpful to scold them and force them
to listen since they have a short attention span. We must make adjustments in order for
them to learn the lessons in the best way they like.

4. As a future Teacher, how will you addresses the problem like this?
As a future teacher, I must address this problem in a way were I must consider my
students. It is not good to force them, but rather make adjustments for them. They are our
clients, so we have to make sure that they experience what they have to. In return, surely
students will respond positively on how they are being treated inside the classroom.

Application

IM’s Making. Filled the table below. Get a copy of your curriculum guide on your respective

LESSON 2: Contextualizing Instructional Materials in Integrative Teaching

Activity

Read the scenario given below. Share your thoughts what is the problem encountered by Teacher
Zava Diha? Why? Be specific with your answer. Then write your answer in the box below.
Teacher Zava Diha is a 3rd grade Teacher in a secluded barangay. She teaches English
subject to her students. One morning, she entered to her class and prepared a lesson about noun.
As part of her activity, she presented some pictures of objects as examples of her lesson.

She calls a hand from the group to identify the object in the picture. However, no one
dares to raise their hands. Thus, she calls a student to answer the question. “What fruit is this,
Marcus?” she asked. The student replied: “Inday sagaw ma’am! Di ka nak matigam nan
ma’am. (“I don’t know ma’am! I’m not familiar with that.)” So, she is wondering why students
do not want to participate. She is frustrated since the students do not know the pictures. She
feels a little disappointment since she prepared her lesson well. She also has materials for that
day.

Answer: Share your thoughts here!

Miss Zava Diha uses pictures of the fruits which are very peculiar to the eyes of the students. For
a reason that they have not seen these kinds of fruits in their locality. The teacher must keep in
mind that she is in a secluded barangay where the knowledge of the children is very limited to
what they see around. Based on the pictures she prepared, surely the students have not seen this
yet, perhaps because these kinds of fruits do not grow in their area. Next time, Miss Zava Diha
must consider the location of the school and the culture of the students in order for the students
to relate to the given topic or lesson.

Analysis

After answering, please consider the questions below:

1. Why students encountered difficulty in understanding the lesson?

Students encountered difficulty in understanding the lesson because of the location,
culture, and limitation of the information they are getting. Also, the instructional material
prepared by the teacher is inappropriate to the current situation and location of the
students.

2. What is the problem with the material prepared by Teacher Zava Diha? Why?
The materials prepared by Teacher Zava Diha is inappropriate to the students in a
secluded barangay. She showed pictures of fruits that are very unfamiliar to the students.
She must prepare an instructional material that considers the learning environment of the
student and their location in order for them to relate to the topic.

3. If you are in the place of Teacher Zava Diha, what will you do to resolve the problem?
If I am in the place of Teacher Zava Diha, I will replace these pictures with those ones
that are familiar to the students that will also hit the objective of the day. I must utilize
the available resources in the vicinity.

4. Do you have any experience like teacher Zava Diha? How did you manage the problem?
No, I have not experienced it yet. But if ever I will experience that, I will make sure to
use the appropriate the instructional materials for the lessons.

Lesson 3: Designing a bulletin board

Activity

Snapshot. Have a research of different examples of bulletin boards that have been utilized in
classrooms and take a close look at them. Choose one among them and paste it below and
describe the bulletin board.

This bulletin board I got from the internet encompasses all the information that are
needed and being disseminated. It has announcements, various flyers and brochures about certain
topics. Also, the inspirational information is being presented to encourage and motivate students.
Most schools are using this kind of bulletin board because it is informative and can attract the
attention of students. They can easily see the different important information like activities,
announcements, and advocacies that might be helpful for them.

Analysis

1. What are the best parts of the bulletin board?

The best parts of the bulletin board are when students can design and become interactive
with it. Posting of important announcements are what can make a bulletin board best,
also.

2. What are the things that needs for improvement?

It should be the design of the bulletin board. It must be an eye-catcher in order for the
students or viewers to divert their attention and read what’s inside the bulletin board.
3. Do you believe that bulletin board is necessary in the classroom? Why?
Yes, it is necessary. As what I have mentioned earlier, a bulletin board is composed of
important information like announcements and memorandum which the teacher cannot
disseminate if things get busy. If a bulletin board is present, the classroom representative
can post on it and allow students to read and be informed about a certain situation or
information.
Application

Select a topic for the week. Prepare your plan for the design of your bulletin board.
Design the bulletin board based on the topic you have chosen. Document the process through a
video presentation. Post the picture of your output in this module and any of your social media
(like facebook, linkdIn, Instagram, etc.). Let others comment your work. Write a brief
description about your bulletin board. You will be rated through the given rubric.

Title of your Bulletin Board: ARITHMETIC BOARD

Description:

It has all the information regarding my topic for the week.
