II. Overview

We can use the following overview template:

Overall, the process for _____ (usually V_ing with noun, e.g. producing chocolate) contains _____
steps, beginning with _____ (put the first stage), followed by _____ (summaries the middle stages,
e.g. cleaning and processing) and cultinating in _____ (put the final stage).

III. Detail paragraphs

In your body, describe every stage of the process from the beginning to the end. You can divide the
stages equally between two detailed paragraphs.

Key points:
 Grammar: almost always present simple tense with the passive.
 Use sequencing words (e.g. first, then, next, before, after, etc.)
 Connect sentences together.
 Use language of purpose to say why something happens
 Use relative clauses to increase the range of your grammar where appropriate

Rewrite these sentences using the passive voice.

1 The moth produces eggs.

2 The larva produces a cocoon of silk thread around itself.

3 People use cocoons as the raw material for the production of silk cloth.
