Equipment Maintenance
System EVALUATION
Equipment Maintenance

Transformer Rectifier Unit (T/R) - Monthly/Quarterly:-

1. Clean and tighten all bolted carrying and connections.
2. Check Ventilation, lighting, cooling system, room installation,
equipment basement, etc. of the rectifier room.
3. Checking the indicating meters for accuracy.
4. For coil immerse unit the oil level and cleanliness shall be
checked, the oil should be clear and nearly colorless.
5. If oil is murky or cloudy, it should be replaced with good grade
of standard transformer oil.

Equipment Maintenance
Test points for cathodic protection system potential
measurement are distributed along the pipeline route
every 1-2 kilometer and maintenance yearly.
Equipment Maintenance
Junction Boxes: yearly
1. Cleaning and Lubricating of Screws and terminals of
the Junction Boxes and covers.
2. Cleaning of electrical connections and contact points with
the required spray.
Equipment Maintenance
Pipeline Casing install where Pipeline crossing paved roads and
railways – yearly
Isolation Joints - 1
Isolation Joints - 2
Isolation Joint Test conducted, yearly, with device work
according to capacitance affect to prevent device malfunction
by cathodic protection current during test.
Qualification

1. Interference Testing/Survey: yearly

2. AC/DC Stray Current Testing: yearly

3. Route Markers: yearly

4. Reporting-Solution-Reparation: As Requested
CPS- EVALUATION
PURPOSE OF EVALUATION :-
1. Evaluate effectiveness of the cathodic protection system.

2. Determine compliance with cathodic protection criteria.

3. Identification of areas of coating defects or degradation.

4. Document any AC/DC interference effects.

5. Verify there are no foreign contacts.

6. Identify areas of localized corrosion activity.

7. Identify areas where future corrosion is expected.

Pipeline continuity Testing
Before starting the evaluation of the cathodic protection
system, it must be checked pipeline continuity that is mean
(no cut in the path electrical current of system ).
Manual Evaluation

Internal resistance more than ten mega- ohm.

a. Cu/CuSO4 For Soil

b. Ag/AgCl For Water
Tools Verification And
Calibration
Half Cell Electrode Calibration
Checking Cathodic Protection
System Potential

1. Check the potential along the pipeline versus to

Reference Electrode and record the readings for

all test points.

2. Adjust the rectifier output according to the

required protection level value.

Manual Evaluation Standards
1. NACE Standard TM0497:
Measurement Techniques Related to Criteria for Cathodic
Protection on Underground or Submerged Metallic Piping
Systems

2. ISO 15589 Part 2:

Petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries-Cathodic
protection of pipeline transportation systems

2. NACE SP0177:
Mitigation of Alternating Current and Lightning Effects on
Metallic Structures and Corrosion Control Systems
IR DROP IN PIPE LINE TO SOIL POTENTIAL
CURRENT ON-OFF

Record Current on and Current off Potentials.

Accounts For Voltage Drops

Must Interrupt All Influencing Current Sources.

Synchronized Interruption Equipment Reliability.
Current Interrupter
It is an electronic switch work according time setting.
ON-OFF Potential
CIPS Technique Survey
CIPS is a survey technique used to provide a detail
profile of the potential difference between the pipeline
and the soil(PSP). This profile can be used to help
determine the performance of the cathodic protection
system, the coating...etc.
Manual Evaluation versus CIPS Technique Survey
Cathodic Protection system Remote
Motoring
Advantages of Remote Motoring

1. Reduce data collection costs.

2. Reduce operator exposure to hazardous environments.
3. Access and integration of , real-time, corrosion
monitoring parameters
4. Improve data quality.
5. Generate automatic reports and alarms.
6. Increase efficiency of integrity teams to timely and
targeted maintenance tasks
7. Evaluate and increase infrastructures lifetime
