Matching Network

The document outlines the design and simulation of impedance matching networks for RF applications. It includes calculations for an L-match network and a T-match network, with specific values for components and operating frequencies. The results include S11 values at 2 GHz and 2.49 GHz, reported as -73.2197 dB and -42.826 dB respectively.

Q1. Given below is an impedance matching (L-match) network {Fig.

1} and its equivalent

parallel RLC network {Fig. 2}.

Given: Rin = 500 Ω, C2 = 477.5 fF, operating frequency (fo) = 2 GHz

a) Solve for R1, L1, C1, L2, R2 and ‘Q’.
b) Using the values obtained above, simulate the circuit in Fig. 1 in Virtuoso. Plot S11 (db20)
vs frequency (1 - 10 GHz). Report the S11 value (in dB) at 2 GHz.

Sol.

(b)

S11 (db20) vs frequency (GHz)

The value of S11 at 2GHz is -73.2197 dB

Q2. In an RF receiver, the antenna has an impedance of 50 Ω and the LNA has an input
impedance of 1.45 kΩ. Design T-match network (C, L1,2, Q) at 2.49 GHz for a bandwidth of
200 MHz. Show the design calculations, simulate it in Virtuoso and plot the transformed
input impedance (real and imaginary) and S 11 (db20) vs frequency. Report the S11 value (in
dB) at 2.49 GHz.

Sol.
